Who has been?  I want to get your opinons on taking a young horse. At the point of the clinic, he will have a about six months on the pattern.  As much as I want to go, I DO NOT want to overwhelm him. The website says to expect to be on your horse all day. Right now, I can ride for about two hours without him getting bored.

ETA: He will be five at the time of the clinic.

Go. He won't get bored and neither will you. I learned so much, I'm currently starting a young horse on the pattern based on her principles. I'm thrilled with what I'm feeling.

Also, as with any clinician, you get what you put in. CJ won't try to coax you out of your shell or out of a sulk. She'll move on to the next person that is open and available to learn.

I agree - GO! I loved it! I took my mare this past August, and she will be 7 in March. I learned SOOOO much! There will always be time to step off them and let them rest without being on their back - in fact when I was there, they encouraged that. While you're not doing drills, get off your horse, loosen cinch etc. Then when its your turn, just get back on and work again. They do cater to you and your horse somewhat. If you and your horse are not ready to be making full on runs, you don't have to. They don't expect everyone to be on the same page. The one thing I really loved about this clinic, is when it started, they warned us. This is not a 8-5 clinic. This is an 8 till whenever you all get it clinic. One of the evenings, she was out with us until after 8pm. I cannot wait to go again if she comes back around to my area.

Ok!!! I really hope I can go.  I wish the books did not open right before Christmas......I will have to do some sweet talking to the hubby.  My colt, Vegas, is doing so well.  We have alot to work on before then I just want to get the most out of it, but not push him too much.

Hey, I see you are in TN...I am thinking of going to the Memphis clinic also.  I have been to one before and enjoyed it.  I like that she actually rides your horse to better be able to help you.  Of course I try to go to every clinic that I can regardless of who it is - each person teaches you something new.  Hope to see you there this summer!

haha, I completely understand the non-horsey husband as I have one myself.  I went by myself last time but I am pretty sure you can have someone with you to watch.  There's also a Josey clinic coming to Tupelo in May but Charmayne is more advanced and alot more individual time.

I have never went to one of her clinics, the reason being I have heard from some individuals who have taken the course say she brings her chiro, dentist, and possibly vet, and she strongly recommends each horse is seen. There is a significant cost to this.

I also heard if you choose not to get this done, you may not get as much attention as the people who have.

I've been to one, almost 5 years ago. Loved it! I didn't take a younger horse, but I learned a lot and still use the principles she taught us. I'd love to go again! The Memphis clinic starts on my birthday and is only about 3 hrs from me....I think I know what I'll be asking for for my birthday this yr!

This is nonsense. I didn't get the teeth done on either horse and got tons of attention. You get what you put in with Charmayne.

There is a huge emphasis on horse health, nutrition, dental health, Chiro, etc etc, but no less than there should be.

So many good clinics coming!!! I can only choose one :

Hubby did fall out on the prices.  My b-day is in April AND five year anniversary so that is what I want for both!

Now that almost have him convinced, of course my mare comes up with an eye injury. I will have to wait to sign up.  I hope there is a spot left.  For the Charmayne James clinic, how many people does she take?

A lot.  I just wish my gelding wasn't still drugged from getting his teeth done when it was my turn for the 20 minutes I got with CJ.

Ok, maybe I can still get in if I pay in January.  It is just too close to Christmas.  I am not doing the extra stuff. He gets his teeth done in Feburay with my other horses and I will have laser therapy done to him before we go.  I cannot afford to spend a crap ton of money.

We are hosting an Ed Wright clinic in February in Mississippi!  PM me if you'd like more information.  Only 15 spots available, and several are spoken for already.   LOTS of individual attention!

I am going to have to hold off on the clinics.  I got bad news today.  My mare may have bacterial infection in her eye.  We are running tests but my vet is pretty sure about it......

She already has impared vision in that eye. I am so upset.....this mare is my life.
