Spend stupid amounts of money getting prospect trained.
Prospects legs doesn't hold up to training.
It's fine. I wanted to sell her as a broodmare sound mare for a tiny fraction of what I've invested in her anyways.

| I say if you have that much invested in her do whatever you have to do to take the pain away. Nerve her, banamine before every training session and leave her on previcox every day until the futurities. Find a track vet that isin't afraid to inject. All you have to do is win one big futurity or slot race and you can get your money back! THen if she is crippled so be it.
JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!! ( But I know people who would really take that advice and do what I just said).
Good for you for looking out for the horse and doing whats best! |

| To inject a sore crippled young horse to get a few more runs exemplifies the utter moral depravity of the barrel futurity world. Consider retiring this animal, and next time don't even think about starting one on the barrels until age 4. The horses' skeletal system is too undeveloped for the work, obviously. That all the big shots are starting 18 month old colts under saddle and running them as three year olds does not make it right! These animals are NOT commodities, or rather, it is a crying shame they have become so. Have a conscience! Do something about your ignorance. |

I know your frustration, my futurity horse for this year never got to compete not because she broke down, it is because she injures herself in the pasture.
I hope you have done your research on her injury, and have spoken to a few vets as I have had some horrible injuries in horses, and with a phenomenal vet and a lot of money (this is the part that sucks) all have come back sound.
I do have one who was injured at a trainers, I was told he was sound, he wasn't, he is 2, his future is still uncertain, the vet is optimistic.
If you want to message me I can ask my vet his thoughts, I ask him random things all the time, and he educates me the best he can |

Don't feel bad. I bought a weanling last Dec(a 2018 futurity prospect), had her shipped to me in April. She is an own daughter of FG out of and own daughter of DFP. In august she cut her leg 3/4 of the way around, puncutured her tendon sheath and spent 6 weeks at the vet hospital. When I took her home finally the vet told me she was a miracle, he never thought she would make it. She still has a large spot of flesh we are trying to get the skin to cover via skin graft. and they are optismistic she will be sound, but I'm not sure. It is just crushing....she is a beautiful girl, with speed and agility. I was soo excited to watch her run.....all I do know is cry. I have almost as much in vet bills invested in her as I paid for her. AND she wasn't a CHEAP one to begin with. |

Location: Loma Linda, CA | Ugh futurities...
We have 2 other futurity prospects!
The crappy part is - this wasn't even barrel training this was just her foundation and she wasn't even being trained hard.
Seriously, lots of walking/trotting she was getting soft in the face, learning how to follow her nose, lope circles etc.
If she can't hold up to this then she definitely won't hold up to even just fun jackpot barrels down the road.
She may be sound for trails with some time off and bute. Im not sure. Maybe even injecting her for the inflammation. Ugh it all sucks
I would never run a lame horse or torture them for my benefit. I don't even want to sell her, but I'm not ready to breed
our horses yet or be in the breeding game. One step at a time for me lol.
I'm just gonna sell her to a breeder or someone who wants a potential pokey trail horse with buyback options (do those ever really
work? lol)
Hopefully, I can keep tabs on her. She is seriously a sweet horse, cute head and body.
She is by Frenchmans Fury and then paint cowbred on bottom. So FG granddaughter, Three Ohs, Lola Ohs etc.
She is Hath No Fury (paint) on allbreed.
And yes thank goodness she is a mare. We only have mares hahha! I love running them.
Flitastic - I lol'd so hard! Hahah!
It just really sucks. She was our only barrel bred prospect. Our other ones are cowbred. I love cowbreds lol! All my friends think Im
silly for not having more race blood. It's definitely a plan down the road. I want an ASOFxDTF one day! or ASOFxFirewater Flit cross yummm!
Cheryl, Ill send you a PM :)
Here are some pics of her. You can see the inflammation in her hock/stifle when you compare the left side and right side.
If you can't tell, it's her left side.

Location: Florida | That has been the story of my life, buy high sell low or free. If I had back all the money I wasted on horses that prople down right lied to me about I could retire. Oh well, hasn't worked out as bad as my recent first time attempt at "investing" in stocks and bonds. In 8 months I have lost $2,700 without any effort at all! Never again. |
