I went to update the status on my mares colic and I couldn't find it :(

So anyone who was following I have an update:

Last couple days I was worried because she was not drinking at all and still seemed a little dehydrated. Flanks were sucked in and I was worried since I had to go out of town for 24 hours for holidays.

I soaked her alfalfa in a big bucket, basically filled it with water and mixed her oats in with bran and oil and wet that too. I came home yesterday evening and there was only one pile of poop so that scared me a little. I wet everything really well again last night and said a prayer.

This morning I was never happier to see 4-5 giant piles of poop!!!!! Most I've seen since she coliced!

God is good, I will keep soaking things from here on out!

Any ideas on how to get her to drink more?

If she doesn't have a salt block, that's a good place to start

I have a mineral block in there and I add salt to feed but that still doesn't make her drink

I keep white salt blocks in with mine free choice. They won't typically touch the mineral blocks but really lick up the white blocks.

You could also soak hay cubes for her with lots of water. Purina makes the hydration hay too, but I like hay cubes more. Hydration hay is a but pricey.

You could also feed electrolytes daily over the feed.

Some of mine that won't touch a white salt block really love the pink Himalayan blocks , also you may want to put her on Ranitadine for a while.

Mine to! Won't touch white but love the Himalayan on a rope type. They are like 6 bucks and last for months. Even in the rain. You can also look into Redmond rock. They have a granulated you feed or leave out and a big rock type.

I actually just caught her walking up to drink out of the water trough in the pasture so that's good! I'm going to ride her later lightly, get that hind gut moving a little more! I hope it's all upward from here!

Yeah I don't know why it got deleted I don't think there was anything bad, I liked seeing all the good info on treating colic

Soak alfalfa cubes. Or soak some beet pulp. That will keep her gut moist.
