Location: London Ontario | Anyone had their vet do a Suceed Fecal blood test? My vet is going to charge me $45 - which seems reasonable. It's done stall side and has results in 10 minutes. It will tell you if there is ulcers in hind or fore gut. I've never dealt with ulcers before so any info is appreciated!
I am also curious to see what people get charged for a bottle of Omeprazole. In South Western Ontario, Canada they are going to charge $145 a bottle. Where are you and what does your vet charge? |

He says a horse with hind gut ulcers is SICK, and I don't remember what he said the symptoms were. I treated one I suspected had ulcers with omeprezole from horseprerace and she improved. I think you can also buy ranitadine from that place. I don't think I'd try the misoprostol because of the hormones in it. |

| We had a mare we thought was colicing. She would stand stretched out and lay down, but never rolled. We treated her with fluids. She would poop in the trailer before we even shut the trailer door. She would drink good and as I was slowly reintroducing her hay, no feed, she would stand stretched out about 20 minutes after eating. Her poop was also dark in color. After I told the vet about the stretching, he said she probably had hindgut ulcers. Treated her for that and have had no more problems and it has been a year. |

Location: Mississippi | I have used the Succeed test. The results were vague, but vet recommended treating for ulcers because there were slight positive signs. I opted for the Oxygen treatment - Oxy Ulcer plus the Oxy Max - talk to the lady that is the source for that. After treatment, my mare started firing and running like normal again. Hair coat looked better than it had since I have owned her. |

I can ship you a bag of GastroPLUS that works on hind gut ulcers as well for $115.95 (shipped). It has a 45 day money back guarantee less the shipping. I'd personally save the money to look for ulcers and just treat for them instead. |

How long will the bag last me with one horse? |

I believe your vet is selling you the compounded omeprazole from summit labs, and that price seems about right.
If you treated with gastroguard it would be over 1000 for the month.
I know of a few people who did the full 30 day regime of omeprazole without effect, and then switched to green clay which you can get at nutters for 12.00 and their horses turned around it was like night and day.
As much as I have read hind gut ulcers cannot be cured by omeprazole alone. You need to change the diet, eliminate the stressors.
Redmond salt also has a clay they sell to treat ulcers, I used this on one mare who I kept on omeprazole while competing, she would grind her teeth when stresses. With the clay, I have no more teeth grinding. This product is liscensed in Canada now, but I haven't found a spot that sells it yet. |

You can order different sized bags with different amounts (days of treatment) in them.
One 30 day course was all my mare needed, then on to ulcer prevent daily. 100% different for the better. I saw marked improvements in her attitude in just 5 days (and she was not in a heat cycle or coming into or out of one when I treated her). |

a 32 dose bag will last 28 days if you do the 2 scoops a day for 5 days loading dose. But it does wonders for them. Most of my customers get by great with just that bag and some others keep them on it on their rodeo horses just through the rodeo season. |

Location: TN | I did the suceed fecal blood test on a mare we were trying to rule out ulcers. the test was negitive and we latter found the cause of her problems. I think it was worth the money. its like a test we do at the hospital. I would scope if you have a positive result. There is no DVM with a scope close here. |

Location: London Ontario | The test s $45 and a bottle of Omep is $145. I am thinking we just skip the test and treat. Just off symptoms, I am almost positive she has ulcers. We are also going to go over chiro and teeth once he gets here and decide which she needs more(wont do both the same day).
She is turned out dawn to after dusk everyday with unlimited feed. I am slowly trying to wean her off her grain, she is on Tribute Kalm n Ez. She is just such a picky mare, but I am wondering if this is from her tummy hurting. Ideally I would like to keep her on Alfalfa pellets or beet pulp and soaked hay cubes.
Cheryl, I got it off a friend from Facebook. http://www.redmondequine.com/dailygold/ that's the website and you can buy online or it has a dealer locater as well. |

Location: IL | Omeprazole does not treat hindgut ulcers, only ulcers in the foregut (stomach). Just an FYI...I did the Succeed fecal test and my gelding tested positive both fore and hindgut. My mare only tested positive for hindgut.
