What are your thoughts on horses with mechanical gait issues such as stringhalt and fibrotic myopathy? Not a soundness issue at all, but issues that affect their gait. Would it bother you? Would you reduce them drastically because of it? Just trying to get some feedback on what people think about this. Thanks!

I had a mare that had fibrotic myopathy. She was a 1d/2d mare locally. You could tell she was off on her hind left but it never affected her performance. She had a big stride and moved very well with it. I regret selling her lol

Thanks H I M for the response. I appreciate that. As for the other response, I'm absolutely serious.

I had a horse string halt once i had it corrected surgically i laid him off a year and ha went on to run many more years. It's rare do you have a string halted horse? The only thing is they must be balanced get a good farrier

No, it's one with fibrotic myopathy. I'm on the fence about selling this horse, not because of that, and was curious about the general opinion people have about horses with these issues. We are debating selling her, simply to get our numbers down, 14 head. I enjoy riding her and it doesn't bother me, but didn't know what others would think. Do you think it hurts their value?

To me a mechanical issue is a soundness issue. These horses compensate with their entire body and other joints, muscles will degenerate faster then a sound horse.

Unless it was a smokin deal, and bloodlines I had to have, I would pass.

I keep my horses with physical issues because I'm afraid they'll fall into the wrong hands down the road. And I try not to buy them with any physical issues because I'm tired of feeding horses I can't ride! Not saying yours can't be ridden. I'm just gun shy nowadays.
