This is my first season hitting the rodeo trail pretty hard and I'm trying to help with my expenses and I was wondering what opinions are out there regarding portable corrals. I don't mind paying $25 a night for stalls but some of the rodeos I plan to enter are charging $75 a night, which seems exoensive to me.

Not to add to the thread about the girl leaving her horse on the trailer, but what are your opinions about leaving one trailed overnight? I have a new sundowner 4H with thick mats and I bed it well with shavings. I would also tie the dividers back so it would be open for the horse to move around if this happen to be an option.

Just make sure you anchor your portable pen to your trailer or fence some how. I have seen accidents where the portables were free standing and horse was spooked and ran off dragging the pen. Was not pretty sight. lol Most rodeos as you know have lots of activity going on and spectators so always a concern even for the most experienced horses. Horses have a fight or flight and that can always take over their training. I see no problems leaving a horse in the trailer if weather or other reason. I see them tied out all night to the trailer as well. good luck on your season!

You can make your own out of PVC pipe. Pretty easy to make, it's on my project list for the spring once it warms up.

Thank you! I plan to start local for the first half and then potentially travel further once I feel comfortable with myself and my mare. So hopefully I won't have to stay overnight too much, however I didn't want someone calling animal control on me if I were to leave her loose on the trailer over night. With this being my first year I don't want to over indulge in expenses if I don't have to, but if I make this a long term goal then I would like to consider some cost effective ways to keep my pocketbook happy!

Google portable corrals and see what comes up, I have tied my horses out over night to my trailer with hay bags and water and of course we stayed in our trailer so we could be close if something happen.

PVC scares me a little. lol They are for sure light weight, easy to haul and set up, but it was a PVC pipe portable that I referenced above when the horse spooked and ran off dragging it.

I would want some weight to panels if I were using them, pcv is just to light.

I absolutely love the ones that I have, but they were cashy.  But they are worth every stinkin nickel because my little houdini hasn't had any trouble staying inside of them!

I got a portable set up made by Noble for Christmas from my parents. It was $450, but really sturdy and very well constructed. but still light enough for me (not really big person) to move around by myself. Its called silver drifter portable corral system. If you call Noble, you can ask them who the dealers are in your area, and purchase from the dealers. I have mine in the front stall of my trailer, and they include the mounting hardware to do that when you buy the panel set. Cant wait for overnight races this year now that I wont have to pay for stalls/pens!

My husband built mine......out of galvanized pipe. Super light and the material was around $100 I think.
