Here's your chance to share your story along with what you ride:) what I mean by this is like cow bred of race bred? Or both? Age? Breed? How did you happen upon your main pony?train yourself or bruaght finished? Had sense a baby? Everything!

My main mare is the one you see in my icon:) she's 5 and had her sense a weanling! She was a leapard appy but unfortunately picked up the gray gene from her sire! Beduino/dash for cash and dam was just a stunning leapard appy! No significant lines. She's not super well bred but she got all the good genes! Fast, athletic, with good confo:) first horse I ever started from complete scratch! Currently running 2D in big races 200+ and locally 1D:)

Cash is my man. He's registered APHA. He'll be 8 this spring. I bought him as a 6yo off BHW. I drove 2000 miles round trip to get him and fell in love instantly. He's honestly the most incredible horse in every way. He had some good training when I bought him and had been started on barrels, but I do mounted shooting so that didn't matter to me. He took to the shooting right away and even though due to him having some health problems we haven't gotten to compete yet, I can tell he's going to kick some booty if I can keep up with him! We have a very close bond and he's my best friend. There's not anything in this world I would trade him for.
This is his pedigree:

It seems like I get one finished and then my girls steal it to ride, LOL! The two they compete on now are both cowbred on both sides. Low 2D to high 3D horses. I broke the one entirely by myself and trained her myself. The other was broke to ride but I trained him myself as well.

The one I can currently call my own is a Frenchman Guy/Special Effort Grandson. He was broke to ride and started on the barrels by another gal. I just have been finishing the project :)

I am a diamond in the rough type of guy. lol I like to find nice bred horses that people don't even know how nice they are. Last colt I bought was a 4 year old off the track. Trainer called me and said he had one by Dash Ta Fame and wanted to know if he would make a barrel horse ,lol I was there at 4AM the next morning. Quick xrays and vet check, and in my trailer he went for 1/100th the price people ask on this site for Dash Ta Fame colts. He is DTF on one side and Mr. Jess Perry on the other. Got him in Sept of 2014 and he was finished by Feb/March 2015. Amazing dude.

I have a gelding by PC Frostbidden out of a streakin dash daughter. He's quirky, and has a few issues but he's loping the pattern. I hope to haul him his winter and get him really going so I can introduce him to some rodeos this summer.

7 yr old AQHA sorrel gelding. 15.1 stout made. Cutting bred on both sides. By a son of Docs Stylish Oak on top out of a mare that goes back to Smart Chic OLena.
Father in law bought him as a yearling.. dirt cheap. My husband traded for him, and I took over :) Trained him on barrels.

We seasoned last year and are going into this years rodeo season with $$$ on our minds!!!  HOPEFULLY :)

I run a 14 y/o own daughter of Sanjo Lena. She was a cutting horse till age 4 then was a team penning and ranch sorting horse her whole life till 2 years ago when I got her. She had a couple babies in their at some point before I purchased her. She quickly took to the barrel pattern. She is quick and catty but sane. Love my little cowbred mare because I can do anything on her and she excels.

Sweet!   I have a friend whose husband is a farrier.  They know everybody and get told about horses all the time.  She has a mare she paid 1k for as a 4 year old, took a year to get her healthy and trained on barrels.   She has been running her for a couple of years now and has 2 standing offers for 60K and people wanting to borrow her for the American qualifiers.  This is about the 4th one she has picked up for nothing and turned into a  big time winner.  She has only sold one of them.

The one I am running right now is just a freak of nature.  He started his life as a tie-down horse and was that until I started dating his owner 4 years ago.  I got to play around with him on the barrels for about 3 weeks after we were dating a year, then he went back to roping calves.  Last year in Jan I got back on him and started hauling him as my "colt (he's 11)" just playing with him.  In April 2015 he made is 1st rodeo run and by the end of the rodeo season we were 16th (I didn't by my card when I won my 1st dollar, stupid me).  He ran in his 1st AQHA show Jan. 1, 2016, won the class, qualified for world, and got his ROM.  The next day, he set his 1st arena record.

Little pooper is a pain, but he deserves to be. :)  He is a Peppy San/Doc O Lena bred.  He is 14.3 and looks like a pony, but he is a beast!  http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/captain+bear+claw

And my old man, who wasn't suppose to amount to much more than a ranch gelding and turned into one hellofa nice all around horse. Won a couple series just last year! I've had him since he was a weanling, started on the ranch, to the roping box, then to poles and barrels.

I run on whatever my daughter doesn't.  ha ha  Tomorrow it will be Lindy, the 26yo that has been retired more than once but keeps getting called back into duty.  We raised her, I ran her momma in high school and college.   She is race bred on the bottom and ***gasp**** halter horse on the top side.  She was barely started on barrels as a 4yo, then was headed off of for a couple of years, then sat around until she was 13 and I started riding again after having my babies.  She's done wonderful things for my ex-husband, both daughters, me, and been borrowed by couple of good friends.  Everything but the first 3 months was done at home.  I only run her at 5D-s because she is usually right at 1.5 seconds off---can't win any $$ there at a 4D!

The other barrel horses we have are total opposites.  Geraldine (16h, 9yo mare) is bred for barrels/rodeo and was doing awesome, 1D @100+, 2D @ big races, then got hurt.  I started riding her again after 10 months off and today she reminded me why I was looking into a magic seat a couple of years ago.  She's always been lazy and laid back before.  She was started well when I got her as a 3yo.   The other one is fondly referred to as Crackhead.  She is straight up cowhorse bred and reining trained.  I got her as a 5yo reiner reject that had been blown up and put out to pasture for a year.  She's a 14.3H, 7yo bundle of nervous energy that has taken a couple of years to properly channel.  She's starting to be awesome to us.  Between these three horses, their styles couldn't be more different.  Keeps us on our toes!

Mare in my profile picture was a bunch of nothing bred. I'd maybe call her halter or ranch horse bred, but not even really that. haha Plus she is solid paint, so a bunch of nothing paint lines. haha

All of mine are race bred.

1. Son of Jody O Toole with Easy Jet and Truckle Feature on his papers on the bottom. 17 years old

2. Granddaughter of Ronas Ryon on top, granddaughter of Count Giacomo on the bottom. 12 years old

3. Sky Top Bar and Raise Your Glass---paint in my avatar---2013 RESERVE WORLD CHAMPION IN POLES, TOP TEN IN BARRELS. 12 years old.

4. Two sisters that are Frenchmans Guy and Dash Ta Fame on top and First Down Dash and Timeto Thinkrich on the bottom. 3 and 4 year olds.

I have trained all of my own horses since 1959. I figured out the a trainer could get a lot done in a shorter period of time, so mine go to a trainer now. Best money I ever spent. I raised the paint and the two sisters.

Mine is the picture you see.

We are still new to each other. She is a 10 year old APHA mare.

Her lines are reining & race. She's got Merridoc and Beduino, but they are pretty far back.

We are cruising the 4D right now, but my race with her was her 8th race and we are just loping. I am sure in time she will be better. My trainer thinks she will be 2D when seasoned out. That's our goal this year!

:)

My other fillies I'll be running

Gunner/Miss N Cash/Foundation bred

Hollywood Jac 86 - cow bred filly

Mine are "mutts" but they do have one particular mutt on their papers that sent me looking for them. Not really "mutts' per say but not your typical breeding if you go looking for a barrel horse but fell in love with their dam, tried to buy her after starting the gelding as a 2 year old, ended up going back and buying his full sister and then went to the well again and got the half sister out of the same mare. The gelding I have ran gymkhana on, barrels, competed in cutting, reined cow horse and ranch horse versatility...that 's him in the picture as a 4 year old with about 15 days on cows.

I have 2 main horses. One is Impressive bred top and bottom. I bought her as a finished 4yr old. I've had her 11yrs. My other one is a solid color paint gelding. I don't know anything about paint breeding to say how he's bred but he's 16.3 and half and built like tank. He was owned and finished by Brett Monroe. He's not the fastest thing but he's so easy to ride so that's why I love him.
