| Looking for some saddle recommendations for my 4 year old. I believe he has a pretty flat back (someone correct me if I'm wrong) as my Crown C rocks pretty bad and pops up in the back - I've been shimming it and it's been better but don't want to have to do that. Suggestions appreciated!

| The crown c you will need to get a flat bar.
I have custom ordered 2 crown c's with flat bars and no more rock |

| Gullet is 8" - I thought about trying the flat bar but was thinking of just trying a different saddle completely. I have issues with it rubbing my knees. |

That's what I have is a 3/4" 5 Star on him. I'm not so sure making it an inch smaller up front would really help because it's the rock that's the problem but I can try it! |

Location: Southern Indiana | His back really isn't flat, he's got a decent wither. Your saddle could be rocking because the gullet is too big and a combination of the tree having too much rock. I don't own any martins and don't really believe in their fitting philosophy. I would probably try something with a standard gullet. He doesn't look super wide in the pics, but it's hard to tell unless your in person. Personally, I am a double j fan. My suggestion would be to just find something you think you'd like and try it.
It also looks like your saddle may be too far forward as well. I'd slide it back a couple inches. |

| I have a 4 yr old built similar and was having trouble finding a saddle to fit him. I just bought a Tammy Fischer wide, I've only had about 5 rides in it and there's quite a bit of snow here so I haven't been able to test it really well, but he seems to be quite happy in it so far, not acting out while saddling or refusing to go down hills like he was with my Charmayne, Not sure how I feel about treeless, I've read good and bad, but knowing that he is going to continue to change for a couple more years, I'm hoping it will get him through until he's done growing. It is a little deeper than I like and the horn is quite tall, but I like it more every time I ride it. If it works out for him I might look for a Jackie Jatzlau instead to give me a little more freedom... |

Location: Bandera, TX | Try the Caldwell Promax. Is the horse sporting a Hi/low syndrome? It looks possible to me by the over the top picture. Fix is neccesary if that is the case, for any saddle. |

| Hard to tell in pics, if he really is wide I suggest a wide fit double j, if he's not that wide a standard tree double j may work too. He looks similar to my horses for a side profile, and I have both trees, the wide I use on my gelding as he is thicker in the shoulder and a little flatter threw his back |

I agree. I have two very wide and flat backed horses. I have a Lynn Mckenzie wide and a pozzi wide and they both fit great! I tried a crown c and had the exact issue you are having. |

| I wish that there was an easier way to try some of these saddles. I have a mare that is wider and flatter than the OP's and is very short backed to boot. Am having a hard time fitting her and around this area I haven't been able to find someone with any of these saddles to try on her.
I did try a Caldwell on another big mare that may have fit better but hurt the crap out of my back, so add to the equation a bad lower back that does not get along with a deep seat or high cantle. Sigh..... |

Nope, angles are the same. He has good feet but is standing funny. He's also not as downhill as this picture makes it look - the wash racks run forward for the drains. |
