| Does anyone run specifically for weight loss? What is your program? What type of stuff do you eat? How much have you lost? I started walking/jogging two weeks ago. Of course with the intention to jog my full 2.15 mile route eventually. I need inspiration! | |

| I just started on the treadmill last night. Weight loss would be great but mostly because I have no wind stamina and walking on it does help my legs and butt. | |

Location: Bigfoot Country | I too, started walking to get in shape. I need to get stronger to ride my horse better. A friend of mine took me to a yoga class for horse people. It was very simple movements, but I felt like a DORK!! lol Made me realize how much strength I have lost! I'm probably older than you, 51, but man my balance and core strength have really declined! So, let's do this!! I don't care how much weight I lose, but I would like to! I just want to feel more secure riding my young horse! So maybe if you set a goal, it would be easier to keep walking/jogging. Good luck!! My goal is to NOT FALL OFF MY HORSE! lol

| There's a fantastic app called Get Running. It takes you from no activity to running three miles at a time. The voice coach is very encouraging and hard to hate. It syncs up perfectly with your device music.
Get a spandex Flex belt to put your stuff in so it doesn't jiggle (I take my phone and asthma inhaler).
Eat as clean as you can: no sugar, steamed veggies, meat, small bit of fruit.
Don't worry about the scale, worry about the measuring tape. You should gain some pounds as your body adapts to your new work out before the scale starts to come down.

| I wish I could make myself run but I have no discipline for it. I have an exercise room in my house and I do tapes. I wear a Fitbit and a heart rate monitor. Funny, I can easily do an hour of kickboxing that equates to almost 4 miles with an average heart rate of 150 but try to get me to jog and I quit after 5 minutes. I have to find the right type of exercise for me to not quit. | |

My daughter has an app where you are being chased by zombies, lol. It will tell you run fast, you are about to get eaten, then slow you down as you escape. It works you in intervals.

That is frigging hilarious, lol.
I'm currently able to jog about half of the 2.15 miles in intervals. I'm hoping to be able to jog the whole thing by the end of February.
I had to take over my daughters old horse after we put my little mare down. He's huge and STRONG, so yes falling off is a possibility and not a pleasant one, lol.
I have cut out all white stuff. I feel better when I do. I'm good about 75% of the time. I'd like that to be closer to 90%
Honestly, I do really want to be strong. But I am vain, and want smaller jeans and a smaller number on the scale. Ugghhh :-/

what you eat should be the main focus if you're wanting to lose weight. You can run all you want but if you're not eating right you won't lose more than a few pounds and gain it back just as fast as you lost it. High protein, clean(no processed foods), stay away from anything labeled "low fat" or "fat free" sugar is what they usually replace the fat with and you want to cut out as much sugar as you can. Fat isn't bad for you as long as its healthy fats, such as: Avocados, cheese(swiss, parmesan, feta, cottage cheese), eggs, Dark Chocolate, nuts. Your proteins need to be grass fed red meat(organic, or straight from a butcher, or wild game), wild caught seafood, poultry and pork(no bacon-turkey bacon is ok, sausage, etc.). Lots and Lots of vegetables; raw, boiled, roasted, steamed, use EVOO instead of butter and if you use butter make sure it's real butter not margarine. Yogurt(greek, plain or with honey), fruit and granola is what I usually eat for breakfast or two hard boiled eggs, with whole grain toast, and some fruit or turkey bacon.
I also run and work out at least 5 days a week. Some good apps to get started are, Couch to 5K-just a running app, MyFitnessPal-track meals and workouts and tells you nutritional values for the day as well as your target calorie intake, 30day fitness challenge - lots and lots of different challenges.

| I've lost 20 in the last year from sporadic exercise and clean eating. I'd like to lose 60 more ideally. I'm going to try and be more committed this year. | |

Location: North Dakota | Running is great and all, but if your goal is to lose weight, 80% of the "battle" is how you EAT. You need to eat healthy and eat clean. If you are not sure where to start or what's good or bad, it can be highly beneficial to meet with a trainer and/or nutritionist.
Drink plenty of water. Limit sugary drinks (yes, that includes the creamer you put into your coffee in the morning). Choose whole grain or whole wheat carb choices, in moderation. Your carbs should not be white! (white rice, white bread, white cookies, etc etc) Carbs are essential but they do have a lot of calories. Protein is so important, but make sure they are good lean choices. Also, don't douse them in condiments (very quickly adds calories). Eat lots of veggies. They are so good for you! Fruit is good too but realize they are a natural source of sugar, so moderation is important. Try to eat them early in the day.
Supplementing with weight training and cardio will help with weight loss goals, but it is so good for the rest of your overall health too.

| I use MyFitnessPal to track my food, I have a FitBit and I used the Couchto5K app for running/exercise. Set a step or distance goal, and do it. I can't run around a park, but I can sure walk around the barn cleaning up, and walking pastures looking for lost shoes, walk the dogs. Depending on your job, I walk around the building to get to the restroom, I walk to lunch instead of drive. I work downtown, so things are close enough to do that, but still a good distance away. Or, I bring my lunch and eat at my desk and take a walk on my lunch hour. I work on a university campus, so there is plenty for me to walk around and see, and it's nice to get out and get some fresh air.
I've lost about 12-15 pounds in the last 6 months, and that's including gaining some back over the holidays and loosing it again. I'd love to loose 10 more, but would be happy with 5.
My biggest help as far as food has been decreasing my portion sizes. I don't stop myself from eating anything I love, chocolate, biscuits, bread, but I let myself have some, and that's it.

Location: ~Kansas~ | When I hit my 50 lb weight loss goal.. I started jogging and doing cross fit
I am down 70 lbs now with 100 to go, I just recently started jogging again last week with doing the couch to 5k program.
I eat healthier and less as well as cut out all of the eating out, crap, junk food etc...
I also was lacking proper nutrition majorly, now that I am healthier and off quite a few medications I feel great . Even though I am still overweight I don't mind jogging and working out since I feel so much better as my knees, back, hips, elbow don't bug me all the time like they use to.
Wish you the best and support is key as well as start small don't jump in head 1st and meal prep helps a ton
I use myfitnesspal to keep a log of what I am eating and I use my fitbit to log my walking and working out

Location: 31 lengths farms | I lost 60+ lbs 25 years ago or so, lost it in a little over 8 months or so, never ran but did do cardio on the stair master and elliptical glider. Getting some lean muscle on helped the most of anything, along with learning to make better food choices.
6 years ago a friend and I started running after we did a 6 week boot camp to kind of get ourselves back into the habit of working out again daily. When I started the boot camp I weighed @ 148lbs, we ran on average about 2 miles a day for the camp 3x a week and then were expected to run on our own another 4-5 miles total on our off days. At the end of boot camp I weighed 140lbs but was down 2 jeans sizes more due to the lean muscle than the running.

I loved that program (I hate running and that made it tolerable) at the end I was actually able to run/jog 40 minutes straight. I've since gone to the weight lifting world and avoid running like the plague now but I would never hesitate to use that program again. I loved that I could customize the voice I heard for every interval!
