Location: WI | Good news! Finally headed in the right direction and now hoping this will set the tone for every single rodeo committee on a circuit level to improve the ground anyway they can even if it is just a little! |

| I am so glad to see this.
My one hope is that the ground crew truly takes the time to talk to directors, contestants, and stock contractors for each event and create a ground that will allow each to work well. What they have now works for no one, but the last thing we need is one event being singled out for having ground that is beneficial to that event but doesn't work at all for another. Tons of room for improvement now though! We are going to try and go next year, great year for a first NFR trip! |

| I have to wonder how much of this decision has to do with the ERA. After all this has needed done for years and they choose now to do it. Makes me think they are trying to make the NFR better to try and keep some of the girls from jumping ship or the ERA. None the less I am glad that they have finally came around and seen the light that the ground sucked big time. |

| Not trying to be pessimistic, but the announcement doesn't say anything about NEW ground, just that Mr. Davis has asked the best grounds person HE knows to take a look and make recommendations........ hmmmm.
Here's the announcement:
Petition update VICTORY!

Feb 13, 2016 โ Thank you all for your support of this petition. Our voices have been heard. Many people have been working for better ground at the NFR for years. The fan support helped in finally getting it done!

The NFRC meeting in San Antonio just ended and I have great news to share with you!
Shawn Davis announced today to the NFRC board of directors that he has hired the best grounds person he knows of to take on the task of improving the ground at the NFR for 2016. They have already analyzed the ground and the water and have made their recommendations. He said "The ground at the NFR will be the best that we can make it!' We are free to announce that information.

I caught that, too. Just the cynic in me--I'm a "believe it when I see it type"! I do hope that this does mean it WILL be better for all involved, they don't deserve any less. |

| I agree too - I am a cynic - but I sure hope it is better than what it has been in the past. Regardless, something needs to happen to improve it - I really wish Florida would have won the bid for the NFR - I think they truly care about the grounds and the animals and would have put forth a top notch effort. |

I agree.....sorry to be pessimistic but he says NOTHING about "new ground".....only that it will be tested and worked....this dirt is what? 30 years old? Anybody that runs in the same arena for 30 years knows that the dirt needs to be replaced or new dirt added. I remember reading last year that, when the ground was questioned, Mr. Davis made the same claim that he had it tested and it was "fine"...... I applaud those that have worked diligently to get something done but I am not holding my breath...... |

There was a petition that thousands signed from the Fans to Shawn Davis to improve the ground where it is safe for all that was a huge contributing factor. The ERA may of helped to push too. |

Location: The Great Northwest | I hope the grounds committee would get it where there was a tractor rake after 5 and 10. I think that would help a lot to keep the ground consistent for all barrel racers. |

That's not going to happen.....takes too much time.....They rotate the contestants as the week goes by so they all rotate from first to run to last...... |

Hand raking just puts the ground back. It may look nice. However, it is not packed down for good footing as a tractor rack should do for the ground. |

So anyone know who is the best grounds person Shawn Davis knows? Who is this person? Maybe he doesn't really know any good grounds person. So the same dirt, but what if the best grounds person he knows thinks like him? LOL Sounds like a nice politician answer. Doesn't mean the equipment used or person using it will be any different either. |
