| Which do you prefer ? My horses get grass hay pretty much 24/7 & 6 lbs of equine senior active by purina .. My grass hay isn't bad.. But it's just average grass hay .. So I'm wanting to basically just add a quality forage product . They aren't skinny by no means but could use just a little more bloom coming out of winter . So which do you guys prefer & how much do you feed per day ? I have always fed beet pulp but right now I am mixing about 11/2 qts of beet pulp with 1 lbs if alfalfa pellets . I prefer pellets over cubes bc they are easier for me to deal with & like I said , they have access to grass hay 24/7 . |

I like them both, and feed them both, but they are good for different reasons. They're both high in calcium but alfalfa is superior as far as nutrients and protein go. Beet pulp is in a lot of ways just a filler forage that will help them keep/gain weight. If I had to pick one over the other, it would be alfalfa for sure. Pellets are fine but I recently switched to cubes because my horse likes them better and I have heard typically they are better quality alfalfa. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I like both and feed both together instead of grain to most of mine. It is an excellent way to put weight on them. I only have grass hay that we raise from our own meadows. |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | I feel like they get better nutritional value from alfalfa. I feed beet pulp, but I feed it mainly to stretch my hay supply and don't feed much, and I mix it with alfalfa cubes. Especially if I'm feeding older horses, I feed more alfalfa. |

Location: Florida.. | Both.. I like soaked Beet pulp to get more fluid in gut and I usually throw them a flake of ALfalfa with grass hay so I dont use ALfalfa pellets or cubes because I Prefer not to have that much Protein (sr has 14% already).. In winter I might use the cubes and beet pulp soaked to keep gut hydrated and moving along since there is no good grass.. |

| Does anyone feed them mixed with no grain ? I was thinking about cutting out the equine senior active all together & just feeding beet pulp , alfalfa pellets & maybe a ration balanced ? What are you thoughts & how much to feed of everything if I did that to keep them in good condition . They could use a few more lbs right now coming out of winter . Like I said they don't look bad , but I certainly don't want them losing anymore with being worked consistently right now . |

| I fed them both mixed and soaked through the summer for a gelding that I had a hard time keeping weight on last summer. I really liked the results I got with mixing them. I didn't feed any grain, and he was out on pasture grass. It made a big difference. |

| Question: would you guys feed something like renew gold or a ration balanced with the mix , to make sure they are getting all of their vitamins & minerals , or do you think the mix is good enough ? |

Location: West Texas | Personally, I do not like or feed beet pulp. My reasoning, it is higher cost, more hassle, and less nutrition than alfalfa pellets. I would choose alfalfa pellets over beet pulp every time.
