Do horses recover fully from EPM? I mean like go on after treatment to be as athletic as they were before they had it? Would you buy a horse that had had it? We don't have too much of it around here, just curious.

In most cases, I believe so. Mine is running better today than before we treated him. I asked my vet the same thing when mine had it, he said he once had a horse come off the trailer walking sideways, had been deemed "clumsy" for a couple years by a the family who owned him until it got obviously neuro - was treated and went on to start a youth barrel career in his mid teens, had never been a barrel horse.

It would depend on the horse. It would have to be a horse that had recovered and was running at the level I wanted it to after recovery. A prospect or one in training? No, I wouldn't take the gamble.
I have a horse that has been treated and gone over, but cannot determine if his issues are EPM related or just arthritis.

It depends on how much damage was done before the horse was treated. The longer the horse goes untreated the greater the chance of lasting damage. Nerve damage can take a long time to regenerate, if at all.
Caught early, treated properly, yes, they can make a full recovery.
I would buy A horse if he'd been previously treated for it only if he'd pass a soundness exam and Proprioception tests.

I purchased a horse in September 2015 who was delivered to me infected with EPM. Recommendations by vets had been made to put her down but after several months of treatments, just finished about a week ago, she is expected to make a 100% recovery. Nerves regenerate, brain tissue can heal and my girl is living proof. Not all horses make a full recovery but if treated properly chances are good they will be just fine. I hope this helps. :
