OK folks, I am shopping. I have found a few trailers that I like, dont like etc. Basically we need a 3H slant with 8' LQ. What brands do you guys like, dont like, have a major dislike....just give it to me!!! I had my eye on a 2010 Keifer but I have heard things that dont sound so pleasant. If I am going to finnace a traler, I want it to last. I also dont want something super heavy. My horse hates mangers.....Let me have it! What is your experience?!!!

First, realize that there is a trailer for everyone, just like there is a horse for everyone....it all depends on your budget, how hard you use it, how long you plan on keeping it, and what you expect from resale.

If you haul a lot and need a trailer that stands up to abuse and a lot of miles and horses that are tough on trailers, you need something like a Platinum, Elite, 4-Star, C&C or Hart, Cimarron....even older is good with these brands and they have the highest resale.

If you are a weekend warrior or have a limited budget, you will do fine with the entry level brands (Kiefer is one of those, and Exiss, Featherlite, off brands, etc.), but realize you will have more maintanence and lower resale so the key on these trailers is to buy at the lowest price you can find for the year, options and condition of the trailer.....STAY AWAY FROM BISON....They are not insulated with the water impervious styrofoam that other brands use, and it causes major problems if compromised...jmo from years of experience...

Thank you Cindy! Yes we haul local weekly. Overnight stays about once a month. I want something that will last. I have a five year old son so we are needing bigger LQ (8') than what I currently have. I have a 92 Sundowner 4' SW with shower and sink. Perfect for me but with adding in my husband and child....OMG. Anyhow, our budget is small but so are my needs.

Look on horse trailer world at resale value per brand. Buy what you can afford. Every trailer brand has it's faults or things can break. Look at the welds, hinges, get American made tires.

I have a platinum. LOVE IT! I had several friends offer advice on trailers and looked at a lot of trailers.
Here are some biggies:
A number of certain manufacturers trailers seemed to blow out a lot of tires.
A lot were not well thought and were poorly made.
I wanted a generator that was located outside my trailer in a place where it would be accessible but not in the way.
Another important factor for me was I wanted to be able to start the generator while in the trailer.
Storage!!!!!!! The more the better.
Werm flooring in the trailer, IMO.
Since you have a child, comfort of the trailer would be a big one and having a satellite, quiet A/C and heat, quiet generator, and Carbon dioxide monitors.
Compartments with ease of use and storage of tack.
Bumper padding and the rubber bumper that fits the edge so a horse will not whack his legs getting in and out of the trailer.

That is all I could think of at the moment. I hope this helps!

Heck...back in the day, when I started going in (1968...I know...lol) I had a truck with a camper shell that had the pull up door on the back and I would stay in it at county fairs...you talk about small budget, I thought I was in high cotton when I upgraded to a camper with a real DOOR!!!...how things have changed.

I have a keifer bumper pull and love it. I have never had an issue with it besides the front area roof leaking (just required some caulk) and a couple horses pawing out lights and pulling off tie rings. I haul every weekend in the summer pretty much. It has been used mostly locally but has made several long trips. I have had it for 10 years now.

My pick would be Bloomers, Elite, or Platinum.  Those hold up the best, they are built tough.  I have had my Bloomer since 2008 and it has been all over the US and Canada.  I am just now selling it and downsizing.  Too big for what you are wanting.
