I know a lot of you guys buy horses off of BHW and I just wanted to put out a warning:

I sold a horse as a recipient mare to a well-known barrel racer that is now in turn selling her as a barrel/pole/rope, but more importantly a novice or beginner-friendly. horse and I’m concerned whoever buys her might get hurt and/or seriously disappointed in the horse they purchase. I’m not going to post names here, but if you would like to know the horse so you can avoid it, please contact me privately.

I'm not going around looking to just trash someone's name, but there is a real concern with this horse, the seller is being completely dishonest and I'm not even sure if I am allowed to make a post like this, but here we are anyways because unlike dishonest sellers I do have a conscience and I feel like I should warn people just in case.

Sorry if this is not allowed.

I sold a horse about three months ago, not beginner safe. Seller put him on an auction site two days later saying you can shoot off him and all kind of other stuff. Made me sick for the horse and potential buyer.

Can you post basic info on the horse so people looking at a horse will know if it's worth asking you or not? Like color/age/sex?

I'd be happy to give that info via PM.

I looked at 6 or 7 ads the other day and quit. Half or more were not straight forward.Such as.... two said they placed at such and such events. I Googled the results and they were not on there. Another claimed to be a 1D horse and I know the arenas from the videos and they were not 1D times. Another claimed to be a 20 second pole horse, but all the videos were 23+

I also know one, that really took a gal up her, selling a horse she never even sat on as a 1D and the gal knew her and rodoeoed with her in their younger years, before she moved south.  This horse runs up the fence.  I so wish I would have known before hand as I knew the horse.  No respect for this gal that I uesed to know.  I wouldn't even consider her an aquaince now.

There is a woman around here who buys cheap or takes free horses and keeps them for a month, or less, then lists them for sale as kid safe, running 1D etc.

Some of these horses are downright dangerous.

She's been called out on FB a few times by previous owners who gave them their lame horse as a pasture pet only and she's selling them as finished running barrel horses.

I know how you feel! I sold one for a $2500 trail horse becuse he had locking stifles (locked on me twice during a run) and some bad front navicular x-rays. He traveled fairly sound, but with the locking stifles (and oh yeah, bone spurs in both front knees) he wasn't barrel sound and I sold him with all issues fully disclosed (why else would you sell a DTF for $2500?). Well he turned up on BHW with an extra digit behind the price tag than mine had. Bottom line - buyers do your research before buying.

I had the same thing happen sold as a broodmare only to well know trainers and breeders very disappointed when I seen them show up at a show with her. I think they thought they had snagged a real deal and was looking to make some quick cash on my loss. Unfortunately she proved to them why I had sold her as I had said but they moved her on so much for them giving her a chance as a broodmare as they said or me finding her a good home.

Would be nice if a person could put a disclosure on the horses papers like a car title. If a car is damaged over so many dollars you have to disclose it. Wish you could brand their papers as broodmare only or unsound. Wouldn't stop all bad sellers but could help??

This kind of stuff isn't new but because of the internet, the light has been shown on many of them. When someone does very well in the barrel pen, it doesn't mean that they are honest and trust worthy. I feel so sorry for the horses that are sold by honest sellers and are then are misrepresented by the new seller.

My husband said something one day that the old timers used to cut the tail on a horse a certain way if they were bad news or there was something wrong with them.  He said they would cut it straight across on the bottom of the tail.
