Two suggestions-------get a stampede string or get a helmet. Both work well.

I run in a helmet now, but when I've run in a hat I've jammed it down over my ears and popped the crown out, don't remember ever losing it when I did that. Lost it lots with just Bobby pins and had a few stampede strings come apart on me

Ditto this. Make your noggin go IN the crown. I use pantiliners to pad the hat to fit

If you get some SUPER HOLD hairspray and spray it on the inside band of your hat where it touches your forehead it will stay on (make sure and put your hat on your head while the hairspray is still wet)! I used this trick often. However, when it gets really hot/humid the sweat washes it off and it doesn't work too well. A rodeo queen told me all about it and it really does work.

I was never able to keep my hat on without stampede strings, untill I bought one that fit perfectly! So, go out an try on every hat you can find till you have one that fits..... and yes, the hairspray thing on the forhead does help.

Get a hat that fits! You should be able to pull it down to your eyebrows all the way around your head and then lift the brim gently from all sides and just feel it steadily pull before it comes off. A well fitting hat will have this resistance but still be comfortable to wear.

I use bobby pins and pin my hat to my head. You can also put paper towel or something inside the hat band to make your hat smaller so it will fit your head better. If your hat fits, it shouldn't fly off :)

I cut slits part of the band in front about 2 inches apart, I roll it right before I run

Hairspray will work to keep your hat on your head (spray the hairspray on your forehead, or the front band of your hat) but if you happen to have a really NICE hat, I would not recommend hair spray. It will damage the animal pelt over time.

I did the whole rodeo queen thing too in the past and I had two nice hats from my sponsors custom made for me (about $400 apiece) and they would have killed me if I would have used hairspray to keep them on my head!

So I just loaded up with bobby pins when needed on a windy day. They hurt like heck sometimes, but they kept your hat on your head.

I have always just pulled it down as far as it will go, it hurt like the dickens put pulled it off/poped it off as soon as my run was over, left a marked put it worked, lol.

Stampede strings just dont work for me, I had my hat come off a few times with one and all it did was cause my hat to get in my face and stay there, but a helmet would be a good ideal, cant lose one of those

This. It's amazing how well that works. I also use double sided tape on my forehead (I used the strips that are made for keeping low-cut clothes in place). The stampede strings didn't help me much, but the hatband trick combined with tape worked like a charm. It would've taken a freaking hurricane to get my hat off

for the first time in my life I bought a hat that is capable of being smashed down onto my head, like deep over my eyebrows.  It is a nice hat too, but i never felt like I could do that with say, my Charlie 1 Horse hats...they aren't flexible enough or something.  Anyway, low pony, a few bobby pins near your ears if necessary and cram that baby down low for your run.

I flip the back of my leather hat band down on the inside and it makes my hat fit tighter. Never lost it that way.

^^^ This. I used to lose my hat CONSTANTLY. A while back I dated a bronc rider and I finally asked how the heck he never lost his hat, and that's what he told me to do! Its the best trick in the book.

this is kinda gross but i usually lick the inside where my forhead is so it sticks and push it down til my ears are squished out and my hat is about on my eyebrows! lol it hurts and leaves the greatest hat hair you'll ever see but its effective
