So I'm in the market to buy a new living quarters, nothing huge, but would love around a 10-11ft shortwall. I can't afford Platinum or 4 Star, and I've seen alot of Lakotas lately, anybody give me a good comparison between these and Featherlite living qrtrs? Just curious as I like these to better than Bison or Exiss by far. Thanks.!!

Ya for some reason Bison and Exiss just seem "cheap" to me..

I can't compare them but my featherlite was a nice trailer. Not as heavy duty as my new 4 star. But for the cost it was good quality.

We have a Lakota Charger with 11ft short wall. Had it built with some nice custom features. I had a Bison before and it was junk from day 1. This Lakota has a lot better construction all the way around. Solid floor from horse area all the way up to the front of the LQ. Just solid built. We are really happy with our purchase.

We have friends that bought their Lakota with LQ and a slide out about a year and 1/2 ago and they are still very pleased with theirs as well. No issues.

We've had a regular 4 horse (no lq) Featherlite since 2004. I wouldn't say they are "crap" because we've never had any issues with it structure wise, just dumb things like window latches, things breaking easily, etc.

They will definitely not compare to a Platinum, 4 Star, Elite, etc. But if it's what you can afford I would feel fine driving down the road with one.

I don't know anything about the Lakota's, but a friend has one and the woodwork/cupboards in the LQ seems like cardboard to me.

Featherlites are a nice midlevel trailer, they aren't the quality you will find in a 4-Star, Platinum, etc. but they are leaps and bounds above a Bison or Exiss IMO. Between my Mom, Sister, and myself we have had several Featherlites and they have held up and performed well.

That said I have been casually shopping the Lakotas. I have stayed in a friend's Lakota several times and no they don't have the super high end living quarters but they do give you a lot of bang for your buck. Structurally and layout wise they are really nice trailers. As someone else said the cabinets are kind of cheap but honestly they aren't that bad and I would rather save some money than have highend cabinets in something I stay in a few days a month.

I ordered a new Lakota with a 9' shortwall. I should have it in mid April. Great bang for your buck I think, I have a couple friends with them who have owned a variety of LQ over the past 5-10 years as their family's have expanded and needs have changed, both speak very highly of the Lakotas, I can't wait to get mine!

Not sure where in the midwest you are located but Dale Christensen, Rodeo Rigs, is a dealer in South Dakota.

I bought mine from Dixie horse and Mule, and let me tell you, they went out of their way for me. I live in NY and was heading to alabama and florida on vaca, so i went there. i couldnt get their til they were closing, Cindy waited for me, had someone take me thru everytrailer i wanted to see and then cindy sat with me afterward, mind u they closed at 5, i got there after that and left there at 8pm. they were very nice, helpful, and cindy texted me me constantly about many trailers with cost payment and any other question i had, even when they were closed she would communicate with me. I was very impressed!!!!

Funny you say this, as I purchased my old C&C trailer from them, buying off of pictures only, and had it shipped up to me...there were some minor issues when I got it, dead batteries, and other stuff, but they cut me a check and Dan and Cindy were extremely nice and went out of their way for me. I see they are a Lakota dealer too, I Just may need to email them and see. Thanks.

I had a 2000 Featherlite for years. Never had an major problems with it. It was 15yrs old so it did have some issues that had to be fixed but I think that would be any trailer. We had to replace the toilet and refrigerator but nothing major other than that. For the money their great. Not everyone can afford a $100,000 trailer. I know sometimes things are just plane made cheap but I'm a big believer in if you take care of something it will take care of you. I think that goes for most anything.

A friend of mine just recently bought a new Lakota maybe 2 mos ago. Big trailer, 16ft living qrtrs plus slideout, 4 horse. Well today he just brought it back to the dealership..he just realized when he was pulling it the trailer sort of "dogtracks"!!! He couldn't see both sides of the trailer out of his mirrors, just the drivers side. I had to drive behind him to believe it and yes it looks like it's not squared up or straight in the frame or whatever. YIKES

We bought a Lakota Charger with an 11 foot short wall last year. My husband did major research because this was a purchase we waited to do for years. We are absolutely thrilled with it.

To the O.P., you said you were looking for a new trailer. My two cents would be that you would be better off with an older, better quality trailer like a Plat, Elite, etc.... You can get a real nice used LQ that is 10+ years old for under 30-35K, depending on the amenities. Also, these have already depreciated the most. If you spend 40-45K for a new, lower quality trailer, it will depreciate down to 30K at least, within 2-3 years.

I have had 5 Featherlite Trailers in every configuration you can think of.
2 Horse bumper pull, 3 horse bumper pull, 4 horse gooseneck, 2 horse with a 16' Living Quarters and 3 horse with a 10' Living Quarters.
They all have been great trailers. Some were used, some I bought brand new. I hauled them LOTS of miles through the years while I was rodeoing full time and had no problems whatsoever.

They are probably not the quality of the 4 Stars or Elites, but I would take a Featherlite any day over a Bison, Lakota, Sooner, Exiss, etc. Just my opinion.
