woke up Saturday morning to find one our labs was very sick.  My regular vet was not available because of spring break so had my daughter take him to another local clinic.    Since it was a Saturday had to leave him for them to do bloodwork and x-rays- get a phone call later in the afternoon that there's no obstruction but they thinking it's a severe bacterial infection which could turn toxic and they don't know if he's going to make it but will keep me updated and if he takes a turn for the worse they will call so we can come say goodbye.   I didn't get another update, left a message with the service did not hear anything else so called again Sunday morning,  come to find out they don't stay with them overnight which I assume they did when they said that he would be closely monitored.   My dog was feeling better but they wanted to keep him one morenight which I said no I'll bring him home or take him to a 24 hour clinic that will have observation since nobody will be  there at night.   He was feeling much better and is doing great today.   While he was there my daughter was supposed to have them do x-rays also to look for a limp he has on the front , that did not get done with the other concerns so that office called me today to schedule an appointment to do that and tell me that they're going to have to keep him overnight to do x-rays-what?? I politely said no thank you I'll go back to my regular vet

and let me guess... they want to charge insane amounts for being kept overnight?

Seems like a lot of clinics are out for the money! I had a pet pig I took to the closest "exotic" vet I could find. They literally had a question (where you fill out the pets name etc), that asked if I felt like my pet was "just an animal" or a "family member"? Like really does it matter?!
Took my pig in Fri, they called me with bad news on Saturday. Apparently all they did to help was give pain meds, fluids and pull blood. I'm no vet but I heard pulling blood on a "very dehydrated" animal is a major NO. I never heard the test results. Never was offered an autospy. With sick pigs, #1 thing should have been shots of penicillin. Never again to that vet.

A few years back - 6 years this Thanksgiving, I had a dog who was very close to me. I still miss her to this day (and I've had a few of great dogs since her). One day she got very sick - throwing up, couldn't walk, having seizures. We rushed her to her usual vet.... and they said there is no point to trying to save her, she's "too sick" and "too old" and "not worth it". Still makes me spitting mad to this day. We take her to the other vet clinic in town, and she ended up having a problem that should've been caught years before then. It was entirely treatable if our previous vet would've been worth anything. The vet kept her alive for another week, but she did sadly pass away from it.

Glad to hear that your buddy is doing better, I dont blame you at all, I rather have my animals where I know that they are safe and being watched, I have gotton where I dont trust much at all, there is just to many new Vet clinic's now adays that I dont trust in what they say anymore, I think most are in it for making as much money as they can.

Yes, they charged a hefty fee for staying overnight and "observation". They did help him feel better and I appreciate that but to go from the last communication being he may not make it to getting a call Sunday morning saying they would call me when they got there and had some info got me a little riled. After I hung up all I could think is my dog better not have died by himself in the middle of the night. I take responsibility for assuming " continued monitoring" meant someone, even a tech would be there. Why in the world would he need to say overnight to diagnose a limp, X-ray, ultrasound and call me with results!

I hate hearing vet problems. You're under so much stress as it is, then you have to figure out if the vet is really recommending what is best for your animal, or something that will give him more money. Sometimes they don't do enough. Sometimes they do too much and torture the poor animal. I'm glad it all turned out good and he's okay.
