| Looking for a new saddle but wanted some thoughts...
Just bought a new gelding and he is ratey, quick and throws me all over the place. I literally hang on for dear life. I started riding him in a triple creek and he was about dumping me at the first, so I bought a Tammy fisher treeless... Wellllllll now I've got my timing right on the first and I can't keep my second and third up. (Before in the triple creek I didn't have this problem other than him throwing me at the 1st) so thinking about going back to triple creek but also read some threads about Caldwell and Pizzi being nice and having a good deep seat and coward hung sturrips/rigging. Also, someone recommend forward hung sturrips/ rigging, how do you make sure the saddle is that way? The Tammy fisher really keeps me in and I like it I just need someone that doesn't keep as "in" I feel trapped and not able to move so if he cheats or takes a wrong step I don't feel like I can move at all, I try to "sit up" and ride to my pocket but the swell is so high and he's so ratey I feel like I'm gonna just plop right off. Sorry if this doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

| I LOVE my Caldwells, they sit me like when I am on a horse bare back. I used to get thrown forward but stay right in the center now. |

Location: Where the long tails flow, ND | My Tami runs true to size and is a 14 , my Cactus was a 14 but felt huge. My Double J The Duke is a 14 and seems a bit more snug than my Tami but I think because it has a padded seat and my Tami is hard. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I love how my Caldwell and Pozzis set me, but theses are really pricy saddles to try, if I were you I would try an older Martha Josey, I really regret selling mine I am always checking on the sell sites to see if my 2 that I sold are being sold again. |

| I ride in a Dusty Barrett saddle & I LOVE IT !! He makes an excellent saddle & has made a saddle for the NFR girls the last couple of years. His wife is a pro barrel racer as well. He will make you whatever you want. Mine has a 4 1/2 cantle because I wanted a deeper seat, but can't ride in a 5 inch cause it kills my back. His come with nettle sturrups with no extra charge. |

Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | I have a Double J Pozzi and a Double J Pro and love them both! The Pozzi definitely sits you more "up" and forward while the Pro sits you more "down" on your butt. However, I have never felt trapped in my pro and can still get up and ride a setty horse in it. They run BIG. I ride a 14 in a regular saddle and my Pozzi is a 13 1/2 and my Pro is a 13. My Pro does have a hard seat so that may affect the size too!! I won't ride anything but a Double J. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | If you liked the feel of your Tammy Fischer but didn't like how it kept you in...you would probably like the Jackie Jatzula saddle. You can get up and out of it. |

| has anyone rode in a triple creek? a lot of people say they ride like a caldwell but I've nevr rode a caldwell to know. i do know, i do not like pro rider and i do not like a martin i had.. wasn't sure if the pozzi and caldwell rode somewhat simlar.. no one i know has either of these saddles so just trying to get as much research as i can before i buy... at least the resell value on them isn't bad. |

I
KICK YOUR FEET OUT OF THE STIRRUPS AND RIDE ON YOUR PELVIC BONE ..
WITH THE WEIGHT OF YOUR FEET JUST DANGLING ...
After you learn to ride on your butt and use your thighs and calves of your legs to
sit your saddle without any stirrups .......... then lengthen your stirrups .... stand up in the saddle ...
and barely be able to run your flat hand under your pelvic area .. this should take away
the catapulting you are doing ....
Learn to turn your shoulders to turn your horse instead of bending elbows to hands ... and practice riding 2 handed with long reins ... use fingers to shorten or lengthen either rein while riding .... you will find the position of your shoulders will keep your butt connected to your brain ... SHORT BARREL REINS WILL KEEP YOU IN TROUBLE ...
I think right now you either look like a grasshopper with your knees bent or like you
are sitting in an office chair with your feet flat on the floor and only thing supporting you are the cheeks inside your hip pockets ... that death grip you have on the horn is not helping either ....
Might be time to go get some reining training and do away with a lot of bad habits
you are unaware of ... FOR YOU ... NOT THE HORSE ..
GOOD LUCK!!

It is not the saddle or stirrups ... it is your apparent lack of automatic muscle memory and horsemanship knowledge one acquires riding slower more consistent automatic horses .... having that instant reflex to correct or anticipate comes from doing the same thing correct over and over again ...
Look carefully at your new horse and see if he is more horse than your abilities are ready for right now ........ and think about the future ... sell him and use the money you have been spending on saddles for a solid consistent runner and be sure and spend a couple of days with the owner pasture riding and learning his cues and how to deal with any quirks ...
Here is a master at riding the same way with every horse she gets on ... it takes a lot
of time and correct riding skills and enough horsemanship to compensate and get
in rhythm with different horses ... she has had her two lifetime horses and is working
on a third ...
Watch the video with an open mind .... watch her hands, shoulders, two handed switchovers, lets her weight keep her seated, thighs and calves on horses sides, stirrups hung low and it is doubtful if she is wearing spurs as you see her peddling the sides of Stingray from the ankles down ... copycat Cervi anyway you can!!
https://youtu.be/FqGi3WfY74w
A cue to tell Stingray when to turn is often missed by the casual watcher ..... Cervi uses that inside rein to hold Stingray off the barrel and when she wants her to turn ... she releases the bit and neck pressure on that inside rein ....... notice the slack in the outside rein so it does not send a mixed cue by being too taunt ...

| You need to check and see what kind of work out program you are doing. I recommend running the Couch25K program and just feel your legs start to harden up. Squats. Sit ups. Thousands of them.
Then check and see who is endorsing saddles that is built like you physically. I'm built a lot like Jennifer Burgess and her mom Lynn McKenzie. Lynn's saddle felt like coming home the first time I ever rode it. Their center of gravity and leg length is dead on with mine, and the saddles they are designing fit me to a T.
All the Sherris and Charmaynes in the world can design saddles that work for them all day long, but I will NEVER be 5'8"+ and a size 2. Just not happening. Why would I try to ride saddles that complement them and work for their center of balance? |
