Location: South Central Florida | I have a 10 year old Blue Healer that has had a rough time through life. He broke his back/neck at Youth Worlds in 2010 and a BUNCH of you helped me a lot.
He walks a little funny and about 4 years after the accident, he began getting what we all thought was a cateract. It's on his left side, and that is the side with the most weakness. I just assumed it was from the nerve damage that weakend that whole side.
He didnt' feel well this morning, based on the fact he didn't want to play ball.....if you know a heeler, you understnad. He has slowed down a great deal this year, and I attributed it to age, he will be 10 but has had a rough life.
I clean his eyes out a couple of times a day and when I did the white eye looked weird and was a little matted. Tonight is is FLOODED almost pouring green goo. The eye looks weird, like if he had a contact lense on and it was moving around. The white of the cateract looks like it has moved.
I am calling the vet first thing in the am. Tonight he seems uncomfortable. I'm going to quit cleaning it, but I know it hurts and I swear he has a headache.
Do you think I could give him an asprin? Or a Previcoxx? I am hoping it is just like he got a stick in his eye, some kind of abrasion because that side is so blind. But prayers Please too.

Location: South Central Florida | Thanks, I met him at 6 months, but he didn't become mine until he was 4...after the accident. We did physical therapy for a year, and actually still do some. Most people don't see how weak that side is unless he is tired. I'm really worried. I wlak 3 ro 6 miles a day, and he has been having a lot of trouble....his age, the heat. But now this has me scared. I clean his eyes every day, so I know it just showed up. I know it's silly but I'll probably be up all night waiting for them to open :_

You dont sound silly to me at all, when one of our pets/buddys dont feel good we worry, thats just the way we are, please let us know how its gos tomorrow after the vet visit  |

Location: Opelousas, LA | A dose of Previcox appropriate for his size should be OK. Eye pain is right up there with a fractured bone pain so any safe NSAID should be OK and will help him feel better until the vet can see him. Poor guy, hope he is OK, I hate it when the fur babies don't feel well. |

Location: South Central Florida | Finally home. He has a large ulcer (Im guessing he walked into something...its his blind eye) with a major infection inside the eye. We are trying to save the eyeball at this point. 2 weeks worth of medications and treatments and see what we can do. He said he is in a LOT of pain, so thats first, atropine and antibiotics and Previcox. Thank you for the prayers. Ill post progress, hut so glad he has some pain relif.

Glad you found out what is wrong and is getting treated. Just a heads up..after ours had surgery for a cyst and was on pain meds and antibiotics, it really screwed up her digestive system and we couldn't get rid of the runs. Found a really good probiotic through Amazon to give her and it straightened her out. If you have any problems let me know and I'll pm you the name of the product.

| I'd just remove it and be done with it. My mother tried to save their Australian Shepherd's eyes when they started to do the same thing. After spending lots of money to save them the first time, the eventually burst anyways and they had to remove them. She's totally blind(well no eyes at all) and doing great. |

Location: South Central Florida | I believe he is actually feeling better this morning. He is not himself yet, but he was really hungry AND brought me the ball. He didn't really want to play, but he was thinking about it :)
The vet checked his other eye and said it looked great, no sign of cateract or any other problems.
I'm going to try very hard to save this eye, but I accept he may lose it. He really has not been able to see out of it for over a year. I hate he is in pain, but we are addressing that.
This dog has overcome so much it's unbelieveable. He has an amazing will to live and thrive.
Thanks everyone. I'll keep you posted! I swear it even looks a little tiny bit better, but I may just be wanting it to.
