thats kinda like what im dealing with and yes the wet and mud have probably been the culprit. 
I was hoping that someone had also dealt with this issue and could share their experience with sole regrowth.

Watching this as my horse has thin soles and other than don't have the farrier touch the sole I haven't gotten a lot of help either

Same here, colt off the track that was born and raised in shavings and soft footing. Never needed a tough sole. My farrier put him on 10 week shoeing schedule instead of 6 to try and get more hoof growth. Also use " Rickens" sole paint religiously. That will toughen and push the quick back. My farrier also uses hot shoeing on him to try and get the area to build tougher sole. I feel your pain!! So far its working and its been a year and a half since we started.
