| Has anyone delt with cronic renal failure in a horse and has had any good turnout from it? My mare coliced last week and then recovered and went into a state of severe depression. We got blood work ran on her and her creatinine counts came back at 10 and her BUN at 84. We immediately put her on fluids for three days and retested her. All of her counts came back comepletely normal so we thought she was ok again. I got her tested again on monday and all of her counts are higher than they were before. She is doing ok physically but i know what the outcome is usually for this sort of thing. Does anyone have any hopefull advise of treatment options that I could try? Anything helps! |

| You might want to talk to Run n Rate on here and do a search for her "Kidney Journey". She might be able to help with what worked for her horse. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | My mare has kidney stones, we found them by ultra sound when having a pre-op for a bladder stone that had been found previously. She had several stones in her left kidney, one stuck in the uretor but right kidney was clear. She had the big stone in her bladder and also 2 small stones. The vets originally handed me the lead rope back and said to take her home and put her down when the pain got too bad. I went home and checked into every alternative treatment I could and decided on Equine Natural Care herbs kidney plus formula, the biggest reason was because they sent me a list of what was in it and why, something I couldn't get from any other company. We also found because of the stones that her immune system and lymph system were also compromised so I put her on those herbs also, plus some essential oils, Chanca Peidra, and had her bioscanned a couple times a month as we noticed that she urinated more freely for several days after having a treatment. After 6 months of herbs, we took her back in and had her ultra sounded again, she only had 2 stones in the left kidney, the one in the uretor was gone as were the 2 small stones in her bladder at which time the vets agreed to doing the lithrotripsy so remove the big bladder stone. Her six month check up showed no knew stones forming in either her bladder or her kidneys. She is still on the kidney herbs and I still do the bioscan treatments also. I had spoken to Destiny Shaw Crane in regards to my mare also before I decided on a treatment course, apparently she had had a futurity horse with kidney issues, they did essential oils and accuscope on him and I believe she said that they retired him when he was 18 due to a pasture injury but he was still alive and going in the field at 22. |

Prayers for your mare---and I totally agree that as long as she's hanging in and not giving up then you're doing the right thing by fighting for her |

Location: Armuchee, GA, NW section of Ga | Yes, i had a bucket baby that i helped pull into this world. I raised him, he was a beautiful sorrel with flaxen main n tail. Beautiful. At age two, he was a perfect two year old gelding that went into kidney failure. He would not eat, would not drink much. I tried every type of feed, treats, apples, carrots, grain, hay, anything & everything. My vet ran tests, pulled blood, consulted with everyone....but. He quickly went down hill dispite all efforts of my vet, and myself. He looked like a walking bag of bones under a heavy winter coat. But he still seemed to want to live until January 18th. My vet said he would tell me when enough was enough, and Patrick did. That morning he let me know that he was ready. I called my vet, he came out early, Patrick went to the door of his stall, looked out, breathed in the cold air, and together we walked out towards his hill in his paddock. At this time even walking was difficult. But he did for me. My vet, my friend, put him down and i said goodbye talking to him, stroking him as he crossed over. So, yes, i do know kidney failure. Also of note, my husband was in kidney failure and on dialysis for a few years before having a kidney transplant last May. He is doing great now, a new life in fact. So i do know failure of kidneys. Best of luck. |

Location: MT | I had to put down my barrel horse last fall. He was not able to hold weight no matter what we did because of decreased kidney function. His body was just starting to shut down. I was able to keep him going for about a year and a half after we figured out what was going on with him. At the end, it was easy to tell that it was time.
Hoping for a better outcome for your horse.

Location: 31 lengths farms | Before you give up please try the kidney herbs, and since she isnt' really wanting to eat mix them with water and syringe them to her. Try one bag and see if you can get her some relief. |

Location: MT | I will say that the SLH kidney herbs helped my horse a lot. He had some other issues (heart troubles) that contributed to his kidneys not working correctly.
Really monitor what he is eating and what causes him to flare up. There was a lot of things mine just could not handle. He could do Standlee timothy pellets, pasture grass, rolled oats (small amount), SLH kidney herbs and Renew Gold. Senior feed was off the charts bad for him. Also, beet pulp and alfalfa was not something he could handle. |

Last November when Cowboy was in the hospital for colitis/salmonella there was a gelding there with kidney failure, coincidentally and unforunately one I knew. I do not believe he was brought in intime, and regretfully did not make it.
Many sent for your mare. |

| Shes been holding up pretty good over the last little while, put on some more weight and was happy again. Within the past couple days she has lost all the weight again, hoping its just because of the cold front that rolled in.... Doing all we can. |

Location: MT | That is kind of how my gelding was. He would do well and then have a setback. Usually his setback had some sort of cause, i.e. intake of something his kidneys couldn't properly process. It's really frustrating! |
