| The stable these horses belonged to has gone through this a couple of other times. They had plenty of warning to remove those horses before the flooding started and the barn owner ignored them. I believe it said 5 horses died. |

Yea, saw that too, and they even have a Gofundme for this person. She lost her house in a big flood in the 90's, and has had several floods since. Also there was plenty of warning about this, but she didn't do anything about it.... She claimed the city of Conroe opened the flood gates without letting anyone know.... mmmm, I highly doubt that they would ever do so unannounced. I do believe the ASPCA is involved now. She should not be alowed to have animals at all.... And while a lot of people were trying to save these horses she was just standing there..... We can only hope karma gets her soon! |

Probably the flood in '94. We were flooded in '94 and were affected because flood gates were open and a lot farther north than her. People are the brightest that is for sure! I had to explain the last two days why creeks/rivers would continue to rise without rainfall! |

I've been following the stories on facebook too. Some people are actually defending her but I just cant wrap my head around why the horses weren't evacuated before it got that bad. Some people say the horses belonged to boarders who don't own trailers or trucks... well if that was the case for me, I've got two legs and I'd be walking my horses to higher ground and standing with them if needed. In my opinion, there's no excuse for those horses to have drowned like that. |

| OK folks let's get real ... Houston is designed to flood ... in SW and NW Houston they built concrete walled drainage bayou's to expel the water quickly without improving their older bayou system to handle the fast rush of water. From downtown Houston thru Bay City to the gulf is a nightmare of flooding.
When flood gates are opened up stream the entire area floods like one big rice paddy which Houston is surrounded by on 3 sides. Your Army Corp Of Engineers are the idiots that create havoc all over the USA since they literally control all of the waterways and dams for flood control. They will keep flood gates closed at dams, close locks on rivers in order to have massive flooding and get themselves refunded. Look at the messes they have created with dikes breaking on the Mississippi River flooding towns and farm land and then the federal government taking over the land ... another bungling mess is New Orleans .. billions of dollars disappeared and the dikes are still not repaired and 1/3 of the city is vacant since the politicians do not want the poorer class of people to ever return to New Orleans ... nothing will be rebuilt to better flooding standards.
So, the poor people remain in various states on government help while building new lives for themselves. All of the FEMA trailers were contaminated with formaldehyde/insulation fumes and not fit to live in and are hidden in backwoods storage areas or being sold across the country to unsuspecting Americans.
I live on Lake Texoma at the Tx/Ok Red River border. We watch the Army Corp Of Engineers keeping the only flood gate that works closed to force the lake to overflow and then open the one working flood gate instead of controlling the outflow of water since the prime reason for the lake was flood control to begin with and this goes for majority of lakes you fish and boat on.
Last spring (April /May) they kept the flood gate closed ... lake went over the spillway big time and washed out a bridge on Hwy 91 which connects tx/ok via crossing the dam. They say they are having to design a bridge and construction will not start until August or September ... while everyone has to drive 10-15 extra miles to use Hwy 69 bridge below the dam area. I think we may end up with golden gate type of bridge and not have to go to San Francisco Ca to see theirs ... lol
The corp is nothing but another political group with high paying do nothing jobs like you see in other government agencies ...
Who suffers ... the general public and tax payers ..... the corp is like the weather news people ....... who can be 97% wrong and still keep their jobs... would your boss keep you employed if you were wrong all the time??
I agree with the sentiment of why people's cars get flooded while sitting in their drives and animals caught in floodwaters ......... if you live in these areas and move your cars and animals a 1000 times and no flooding ... the one time you do not ... is when flood gates are opened without warnings and massive amounts of flood water happens ..
So .. lighten up on the poor lady that owns the stables ... her horse owners and local rescue groups are all involved in not taking action soon enough to keep the animals safe.
You and I know how it will turn out ... everyone will sue each other and then the politicians will ban the stable and the horse owners will give up the pleasures of owning a horse. Without ever involving the ineptitude of the Corp Of Engineers or the city planners for the concrete bayous and having no small flood control lakes in this flood prone area ..
It is a sad situation ... but billions of tax payer money has been spent to prevent situations like this and we have political idiots driving the bus ...
On the other hand you continuously have idiot citizens that drive into flood waters and drown themselves while trapped in their cars .. and don't get me started on the automatic locking of your car doors to keep you and your children safe .....

One other item .... with the massive droughts we have had all over the USA ... NOT ONE NEW LAKE HAS BEEN PLANNED OR BEING BUILT IN ORDER TO PROVIDE DRINKING WATER OR FLOOD CONTROL TO THE MASSIVE INCREASES IN POPULATION IN THESE DISASTER AREAS .....
But thanks to our federal government our vegetable farmers are denied irrigation water to protect a little minnow per some environmental group ......... so suffer with your Montezuma's revenge as you continue to buy vegetables from who knows where ... lol

Same thing around San Antoino, we have alot of low water crossing's and people try to drive threw them when the roads are flooded even when the roads are blocked people still will drive around them and drown, its commen sence not to drive threw these low water crossings when you cant see the road. |

Location: CTX | So, someone actually started a petition to get this facility closed. I can't believe she had 70 some horses on 9 acres, and aparently a lot of them where tied to posts!!! . Crazy... I can't begin to imagine the horror these horses went through.... A barn owner from next door to this person has taken in a whole bunch of horses and her story is on this link. https://www.gopetition.com/petitions/help-close-operations-at-cypress-trails-equestrian-in-humble.html

What the heck is wrong with people, why would you even board your own horses at a place like this, if I had to board and my horses were in danger of drowning I would have been the first one there to get my horses out of harms way. |

That was my first thought also! Even if I didn't have a trailer I would walk them out! But seems like a lot of the horses are hers... poor animals.
Oh, and thanks for making the link live.... for some reason it didn't work for me... |
