Location: Wisconsin | My mare that was in foal to Triple Vodka foaled yesterday in the middle of the night. We found the foal early the next morning unable to stand. After a closer look, the foal had a sever case of scoliosis and the use of her hind limbs were inhibited. The filly was unable to stand and nurse and the prognosis of normal life was next to none. the vet believes the scoliosis was caused from position in utero. There was nothing that could be done to fix the curve to the spine as there was literally no muscle mass on one side of the fillys back. I unfortunately had to euthanize her. My heart is sad as of course she was everything i had hoped for, a perfect little bay filly without a fleck of white. In my mind i made the right decision as i felt that quality of life was not there. She would never be a performance horse and wouldnt even be able to carry a foal, i dont even know if she was in any pain. Making the decision to put down this little filly was one of the hardest things i have had to do in my short horse career as i waited a year in apprehension and had high hopes for her. Renee Spiller, the owner of Triple Vodka, has been amazing to work with and so has Blanchet Farms.
On a lighter note, my Takin on the cash mare is close to foaling as well, she is in foal to Tres Kings. Hoping and praying for my bay filly!

Becky will probably make you wait another week or two for her foal and with both parents being bay hopefully you get the bay filly you wanted instead of the sorrel stud colt she gave me. I will be praying for a live healthy foal for you. |
