Location: Texas | I have some box fans to put up and every summer it's a hassle so I figured someone would have some good ideas! How do you get them to hang nicely and conveniently? |

that way when they die they are easy to cut down and replace.
I'm in Fla...so fans run nearly year round.

Location: In my own world | I bought actual barn fans that mount to the wall. They were $90 each. BUT they are washable!! Spray with the garden hose! Had them 4 years now. Still working |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | When I would haul to 3 day shows I would use bungey cords and bailing twine. Next time I haul I will try those hangers that I saw at Valley Vet, looks easier to use. lol |

Location: Slipping down the slope of old age. Boo hoo. | I use these at the shows -- they point the air flow downward into the stall which is very nice. And they work great in home stalls, too.

Location: Oklahoma | I use box fans when hauling and put them in the Mustang Box Fan holder.... It's quick and fast. At home I buy the bigger fans that have metal prop up stands on the back of them and just hang them in the rafters. The stand makes it fan slant exactly to where I need to be. |

Those metal fans with the built in stands move so much more air then the box fans and are easier to hang. Just put the stand over the top of the stall and use a bungy cord to hold it there. Well worth the extra cost!

Location: Riding Crackhead. | IMO the box fans aren't meant for the dirt and hay/straw in a stall setting and I've heard they can die and leave a shower of sparks which cause a dreaded barn fire. They also don't move enough air for my taste. I buy smaller industrial fans that move a lot of air, easy to hang and safe.  |

| we use Wind Machines and they are awesome! Never had an issue about sparks with them and we have used hundreds of them over the years. They also move a lot of air. |

Location: Running barrels or watching nascar | Bungees, zip ties and tape. Oh, and once I used a tie-down strap because it was what I had. Have box fans but when we start traveling again, I may look into the circular ones that are safer.

| One thing to always keep in mind is good ventilation and air movement in your barn whether it be summer or winter. Stagnant air equals sick horses.
Winter you can tell the air is very stagnant if you have water dripping from the inside of you barn. Summer... climb up on a ladder or stall front and see how much hotter the air is as you climb higher. (the closer you get to the metal roof the hotter it will be)
Look at your barn on how to improve ventilation ... peak or ridge row vents so air can move thru the doors // lower part of the barn and out thru the roof.
Your metal roof can heat up to 150F during the summer so let the hot air escape by convection right thru the ridge of the barn.
The best fan is having 10-12 walls on your barn with good ventilation thru the ridge/peaks of the barn so the hot air//heat from the metal roof does not radiate down on the horses. The shade the barn provides is your biggest cooling asset for your horses.
My advice on fans is simple ... do not place them higher than the horses head and suck the hot air down from the hot metal roof and blow hot air on your horse.
Any type of ceiling fan is a big NO NO ...
