We went on the little cruise across the lake....I didn't care for it.  More geared toward people in their 70's.  Parasailing was cool.

While I live only 2 hours from tahoe, we rarely ever go.  If we do, it is for a wedding or like function.  It is a beautiful spot, but if you are not skier or snow bum, I am not really sure what activities it offers.  There are a lot of hiking/biking opportunities.

I have been a few times with my husband on business trips.  There is the gondola to ride ($$) but at the end there are trails you can hike or bike if you like that.  There is  a neat hike down to the lake with some waterfalls and a neat home on the west side.  I think it's called Vikingholm or something like that.  Zephyr Cove has a nice little beach but it can be crowded in the summer.  You may be able to rent kayaks or paddle boards there or nearby. They have a website.  I know there is also a place to ride horses too.  The trail ride through the mountains is something different if you only have flat land like I do.

Good info. I was just looking for some where different to go. My wife and daughter always want to go to the beach somewhere (I am sure they will still do that anyway). We have a friend with a nice weekend house we can use close to Truckee. So I figured I would take advantage of a free car to use and a free place to stay to cut the cost of our trip.

What about cool stuff in Sacramento if the girls want to do the city/shopping thing?

So what are the attractions in the area worth seeing and doing within a few hours of there?
