Location: the land of dust & sticks | first of all I live at the ga/fl line it's extremely hot and muggy during the summer. We are in the process of building a barn and the question of installing fans was brought up. We have them in my existing barn and for a long time ran them daily, however after having a friends barn catch fire from one it scared us and we started limiting use to when we were there only. It's really hot even in open barns here and my horses sweat standing in their stalls, but then again they also sweat standing in the field....just wondering what people's opinions are on this. Would also love to hear ideas to keep barns cool if you have any..... |

Location: Opelousas, LA | We leave them running 24/7 when it gets really hot and humid, the moving air helps with the bugs too. We have GFCI outlets to plug our fans in to, if there is any kind of short in the fan, the GFCI outlets will pop and shut of power to the fan. Probably not 100% safe but it just gets to hot to leave horses in at night without fans. |

Location: Florida.. | most of the barn fires from fans are the standard box fans.. you can purchase a large barn fan to put at one end of barn or get the higher dollar fans.. round ones and hang in corner .. |

This is exactly what we do too. We use the round fans and hang them in the corner of each stall. |

Ditto. We also ditched out box fans this year for these. They move a TON more air too. I can stand in the middle of the barn and feel air moving.

Location: LuluLand~along I64 Indiana | We have a large commercial fan at one end of the barn that will move air thru and then box fans on the stall fronts to move air in. Also our barn roof is insulated and has enough height to allow air movement. I feel those two items are key to keeping the air flowing and the horse cooler in the summer. |

May I ask where you purchased those fans? I like how you have it set up |

Location: Missouri | Look at Sullivan's turbo fan. They are pricey but we use them on our show heifers and they will freeze you out. I think 245 per fan but most of the ones we had were 10years or older. |

I got them at Rural King for $40. My husband did have to create a bracket to hang them. They do sell corner fans for $70. |

Location: Armuchee, GA, NW section of Ga | I am up in the NW section of Ga. Between Atlanta and Chattanooga. We too get hot and muggy. When I had my barn built 10 years ago, i had a huge chicken house fan installed in one upper rafter which pulls cooler Air thru the stalls & center isle. But i also have fans in the front of each stall and a big round metal fan in the center isle to move air around. I also have two pedistal rotating fan that i put in the center isle also. It gets hot, very hot. Even with all this Air moving, my horses get miserable in the heat. I try to spray them frequently and have noticed they often get into the pond to cool off. I wouldnt mAke it without the fans.

Location: Texas | Has anyone had any luck using the Big A$$ fans? We are thinking about getting one for the barn but I didn't know how well it would circulate the air in the stalls. They do a great job in arenas. |

Big Ass Fans are totally incredible!! We wanted to install several in our barn asle but the cost kept us from it. The company I work for has installed several in its large warehouse and it is amazing what they do regarding circulation and air movement. If you can afford them -- GET THEM!!! You will not regret it.
