Your horses muzzles? I use to do it all the time along with bridle paths and ears, fetlocks. Growing up hunter jumper our horses were always body clipped and had no whiskers whatsoever, even the whiskers around the eyes were clipped. I've been reading that apparently it's not good or some say even abusive to clip muzzles because that's how they "feel" around and every whisker is part of their nerve endings or something along those lines. I haven't clipped their muzzles since we moved out here and they are on pasture 24/7 and there's no lighting out there. I still clip bridle paths though. ... just curious

I don't, I was always told horses used them as "feelers" kind of like a cat's whiskers.

I clip everything but the eyes unless they're 6 inches long then I'll shorten them up a bit.

I'll clip under their jaw's when their "beards" get wayyyyy long and they look like homeless horses. But that's the extent of my clipping.

Β We never have....I grew up that way. Β Just did bridle paths. I think horses look ugly when their whiskers are growing out.
I will trim up fetlock feathers in the hot months but leave them longer in the winter when it rains more to help water stay off the feet. I also clip under the jaw because my horse grows lots of hair there and it interferes with the curb chain a bit.Β Β

I only clip a bridle path, other than that I leave it all be. Just for the reason you mentioned. They use them to feel their way around.

I also grew up hunter/jumper. I clip muzzles, goat hairs, bridle paths, the outsides of the ears, eyes, and the long hairs on the fetlocks. If they have any white on the legs, I'll occasionally clean up the socks too.

I don't anymore.  I used to have to for showmanship and pleasure classes.

Now I do bridle paths and legs so the bridle and boots fit.  I trim the super long tufts out of their ears, but leave the inside to protect from bugs.    I stop trimming around Oct. 1st to give things a chance to grow out for winter.

I didn't grow up hunter/jumper but, ditto to the rest!

All natural here - even bridle paths.  I was working on letting my gelding's bridle path grow out and when he was at the trainer's, they clipped him.  So we had to start back at square one and are currently sporting a mohawk

Like the majority...I clip bridle paths (except on my older one, just cause), under the jaw, long hair coming out of their ears (no likes "old man ears" ) and clean up their legs.

I only do bridle paths. I will trim those really long hairs around their eyes if they get too long, but it has to really be long for me to even notice. I think they have all those extra hairs for a reason. Now the goat hairs yall are talkin about might would have to go. . . but none of mine are really bad. Iv seen some ponies I think I would shave their whole body they have so much extra long hair.

Yep, I have a hair thing though.  All ours get bridle paths, ears, jaw line, muzzle and legs.  Can't stand hair.
