Location: alabama | I bought a Martin saddle from a girl in Utah, she sent it usps and did not purchase insurance. It's been almost 30 days since it was shipped. Via tracking info it's only made it to Salt Lake City. Has anyone had this kind of experience with usps? Or know what can be done since she didn't buy insurance. |

Location: TX | That's a pretty big box.. you would think it's kind of hard for them to "lose".. I'd be calling everyday 2x a day asking where my saddle was.
Is the seller willing to reimburse? |

Location: alabama | I'm not sure yet. I was going to give it 30 days before I asked for my money back because the post office does not consider it lost until it's been 30 days. I paid her through PayPal but through the "friends" option, so if she's not willing to give my money back is there a way to get it back thru paypal? |

Location: Oklahoma | I would contact the company of the method of shipment with the tracking number. I would be calling morning and evening for a few days. In the meantime, I would also be contacting the person you purchased the saddle from and giving her some options. A saddle either needs to be produced or a refund. I would also be questioning why there was no insurance on the shipment. In the meantime, I would also get your ducks in a row in case you need to file a police report. |

| When I shipped a saddle through ups insurance was an extra 150, so I can see why she didn't put it on if she was paying for shipping.
UPS told me they don't usually loose packages, their stats were 1:1000, to me this happens way too often to not insure |

Well it was usps not sure if that would have made a difference. But I would have paid it if I knew she wouldn't have |

| USPS Absolutely SUCKSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ordered about 1,000 worth of Medications ( Adequan, Legend, etc) and it was shipped USPS. My problem was it said it was DELIVERED to my PO BOX!!!!!! It never ever was delivered to my PO box. I am from a very small town and everyone knows everyone. Post master said it would be put in a lock box with a key and it never made it!!!!! He told Me LOTSSSSSSS of insider info on the Post office that just makes you sick. Basically of some USPS worker has a barrel racer in the family ( Or in my case horses) and they know whats in the box such as saddle ( Or in my case expensive joint medication) they can just take it and put some Phony info in the computer so the tracking says it looks lost or in transit or what have you. I absolutely had insurance on my medications but there wasnt anything I could do since it was scanned " Delivered". |

I'm going to doubt this, crap happens.....not just because some "family member of a barrel racer or horse person" is going to steal a large box because they believe it's a saddle, or other horse items. How are they going to know whats in that box? |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | I sold a saddle a while back and shipped USPS. It was a huge pain in the butt. The buyer gave an extra $75 for shipping and insurance. (I've never shipped a saddle, so I was unaware of costs) it ended up being quite a stretch more then that. But I paid it because I knew the saddle would make it to her then. Insurance is a MUST.
I'm not a big PayPal person. But does the "friend" option make the money available to her quicker?
We had purchased a large (several $1,000's) item. Paid via PayPal. The item never came. We called MANY times to just cancel the order and refund us. We apparently didn't do enough research as to whom we were buying from. It ended up not being a business, but a persons personal cell phone that we would call. She wouldn't answer or would hang up on us. After several months, we called PayPal and said it was fraudulent, they shut down my account, which was fine by me, and refunded the money. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | Never again will I ship large items with usps. I will ship the if it fits it ships boxes, but those sometimes get lost too... I've had way to many saddles get "lost" stolen or damaged through USPS. Luckily I purchased insurance each time and since I ship so much it wasn't much extra. I now ship via FedEx. I have had one problem with a saddle being "lost" via FedEx in the three years I've used them for larger packages but the saddle turned up the next day. Turns out the driver made a few errors in scanning wrong packages as delivered or what not. FedEx customer service was way more helpful and way more understading. Not to mention they were more professional. They even had a manager call me AND my customer to inform me the driver had been pulled off his route and sent back to the office for additional training. WHOA! They even told my customer they would pay us both for the saddle if it didn't turn up in 78 hours. It wasn't even 24 hours later and my customer had it at her door step. |

Location: NE Texas | Last year my husband shipped a saddle for my mom via FedEx. The saddle made it to Hutchins, TX and then the scans stopped. Bless his heart, he didn't know he was supposed to insure it, and sure enough, it was "lost". Now this man is relentless and he called the Hutchins, TX, FedEx hub and told them he would go park his trailer there and open every single box there until he found this saddle. It took months of calling and them calling him back, but the box was located in Colorado at the "lost freight" hub with no label on it. They found it, asked him to describe it, and shipped it to the final destination again. Lesson learned about insurance.
Now, that being said, my shipping store here will ship used UPS, FedEx, or USPS and according to them, even if you do buy insurance through USPS, they will not honor it. Don't know if that is true or not, but I never ship because of that.
I would bet that the shipping label came off of the box since there are scans of the box and then they stop. All of these items will be sent and stored to the "lost freight" hub somewhere. If you are relentless, you may be able to recover it that way. |

I have found UPS to be more reliable, and most of the time cheaper. I have an online discount with them through eBay or paypal, one of those, and most of the time can ship saddles with insurance for under $60, depending on where it's going. (The last one I shipped went to KS for $35) |

I used it as an example only about the saddle in the box. However, my package said " Valleyvet pet medications" on the outside of the box. I am from a SMALL TOWN, people know I have horses etc. Would not surprise me if someone just took it in case there was something valuable. The POST MASTER himself said it was an inside job. |

The friend option means no fees on the money for the shipper. I will only pay through paypal with a detailed invoice. I also pay fees when people complain about sending an invoice. I would rather pay the fees than not get my money back. It's not much either,. Only a few dollars extra.
If I don't get my item in thirty days I open a claim with paypal. They reimburse me and then go after the shipper for the money. Most of the time if a card or bank account is hooked to paypal, they charge it on the shippers card. So say I paid 250 for a tack set and never got my item or it wasn't represented correctly, I can open a claim and they will investigate. ONLY if it's paid via Invoice. Regardless of if the shipper has the money or not it will debit the account hooked to the shippers paypal. So say they already spent the $250, I still get my money and their bank account is now over drawn $250. |

Does it matter if they know whats in the box??? If its a big ol heavy box someone might take it and worry about that later. Pop it open and if there is a saddle they might try and sell it or whatever. People steal packages all the time from peoples front porch during holidays etc. They steal now, worry about contents later. |
