I found out today that my horse is over reaching and knicking the back of heels so much that is causing them to be extremely sore/bruised.

We are going to put equi-pack on there and keep him in bell boots 24/7.. Does anyone have a similar problem and any other suggestions?

Farrier needs to change his technique.

Horse is not balanced. Wouldn't be a issue if he  was. If your shoer isn't aware of this,he may not know how to correct it either. Bell boots 24/7 is just a band aid not a solution
good luck!

Vet looked at everything on the feet, did a bunch of x rays and said the horse is being shoed perfectly and that it's not a shoeing issue, just the way the horses stride is.

This is a trick I learned in farrier school. Got Lipstick? Find two different colors... paint one color on one back toe. Paint the other color on the other back toe... Take the horse through it's paces... Look at the back of the front feet to see if there has been any contact....

I've had a couple like that over the years. Short backed horses that really reached up nice when they ran or played. Keeping them barefoot will help. I used the rubber pull on boots with the thick bottom and left them on him 24/7. It helped quite a bit. My palomino horse is an over-reacher. I try to keep his feet trimmed every 2 weeks so that he doesn't get long in the toe and can break over a bit early.

Bottom line... some horses are just made that way. You just do what you can.
