| This has bothered since it happened yesterday, can't get it off my mind.
Long story short - I work contract 4-6 hours per week for a NON-Profit. I do the bookkeeping for them. Yesterday the lady I work for (Owner of the company) basically asked me to donate some money because the bank account is at ZERO. Now get this - she pays herself $96,000.00 per year and pays her daughter $76,000.00 per year. Not to mention, they all went to lunch a few days ago and the bill was $167.00. After I reconciled the bank account, I see the meal charge and after the payroll checks clear, the account literally is down to ZERO.
My thoughts are -
first of all....if you only have 2 contracts that total $180,000 per year, then you DO NOT pay yourself that type of salary!! This is why there is NO money.
2nd of all.....why would you ever ask a temporary contract person to donate funds because the bank account is out? Not to mention...I have not seen any cash donations anywhere in our books where either of them have donated!
3rd - QUIT eating out and spending like there is no end in cash flow.
Now that this happened, I do not have a good feeling about the business, or doing their books!

| Personally I would leave. I volunteer for an association that handles a large amount of funds and if that ever happened with us someone would be going to jail for embezzlement. And I wouldn't want it to be me. Definitely a bad feeling about that one. Some of these "charities" really irk me with that type of stuff. |

| Are you meaning if they asked for a donation? Or that they spend on meals etc to the point there is ZERO money?

| I started doing their books on April 30th. The last check she paid me with I was asked to hold off on cashing until some donations came in. I am not sure how much she wanted me to donate or thought I could donate. Found it very odd! |

Not odd, crooked, selfish and oh so wrong, but not odd at all. Sadly, that is how some people roll. I HAD a friend like that, loaned her a big chunk of money too, my bad and probably why I don't have many friends. Walk away. If my math is correct, this non profit brings in 180,000 a year and they spend 172,000 on thier own salaries? I would get as far away from that as I could.

Location: Florida | That is my job and I say WALK AWAY, that is criminal. If she is caught she will throw you under the bus and you could go to jail. There is such as a crime as criminal fiscal mismanagement of funds and she will blame you. She is running a con and you are a party of this as long as you stay there. Leave and report her to whomever is contributing to this fake charity. On a personal note, I could not live with myself being part of that. But you already know that or you wouldn't be posting on her asking for validation of what you know in your heart to be right. |

| Thank you all for the good feedback.
This organization is for a disease called Sickle Cell.
So they receive around $180K from the City contracts and then everything else is private donations. Not much goes to anyone with the disease, its basically just there to provide these two ladies a very good salary and something to do part of the day. Neither of them work 40 hours a week or a full day. The whole situation is kinda crazy! I am curious as to how to inform the City of how their funding is being utilized?
I definitely have decided that after I run their payroll next Friday, (so I can get my final check) I will not be going back.

Location: East Texas | I think if you stop and think about it, you are basically working for a NON profit organization who only "profits" the owner and her daughter. There is absolutely no good that this company can be doing for anybody or anything if that is how it is run. They are not paying you and then asking you to donate?? I think every response you have gotten says to go and go now... I totally agree. If you are the kind of person whose passion is to help organizations like this one is supposed to be, there are tons of legit ones that are calling you!!!
Get your things and GO!!! Best of luck to you! |

Location: N Texas | Wow, that's quite the scam they have going there. They get to pay themselves whatever they want and spend the charity's money however they want with no accountability.
It will eventually catch up to them, but as others mentioned, you'll be the scapegoat.
I hope you stick to your guns and quit after your next paycheck. You don't want to go down in flames with them. |

Location: Sperry, OK | I might even go as far as making copies of the books before I left.. just in case, after you turn them in, they try to alter them and say you did it while you were there. Also, the agencies you report them to, might like to see them, as well. |
