What's your favorite Low Starch and High Fat feed? Would need it to have a dealer in Southern California if it's only available through dealers. Would be for a horse that is possibly PSSM2 or RER, if you're experienced with either, I am open to PMs with advice, this is all new to me. Thanks!

BlueBonnet feeds is a good one to go to. They have a feed thats good to put PSSM horses on its called Intensify Total Advantage. This is the one that I have one of my geldings on since he grass flounder.. I have always used BlueBonnet. Google BlueBonnet Feeds and they have some much information on all their feeds.

Hey! I'm in so cal as well. We suspect my horse is a PSSM2 as well. Changed diet and I have seen a really huge improvement in my horse! I am in the Menifee area and almost all the feed stores down here carry " Integrity" line of horse feeds. I feed the " Low starch Lite" formula with NO molasses. It's extremely low starch and sugar and it's also lower in fat so I add 50/50 mix of integrity stabilized rice bran. So 50 percent integrity lite and 50 percent rice bran. My horses love the feed and look amazing on it. It's milled In Perris CA which is only about 5 miles away. Safe mill no ionoohores. Very reasonably priced at 22.00 a bag. They have a program of 10 bags get one free as well. Hope that helps! PM me if you have questions or want to chat. Purina ultium is not a bad feed either if you want something that is more widely distributed. But my horse is very sensitive to molasses and it also has corn in it. Pretty high energy. I also started a magnesium and vit E supplement and loving the results.

Thats to bad, BlueBonnet is a great feed and the people that work there is so awesome in helping you out. The lady that runs the feed store here is very knowledgeable about Bluebonnet, they train and hold seminars at the feed store to help their customers better themselves to understand the feed.

I know!!! I looked into getting it shipped out here and it was going to be extremely expensive. Maybe someday they will get it out here, just like Omnis cubes!!! LOL

A friend of mine has a mare that vet said has PSSM and told her to put the horse on Ultium in the blue bag which I think they call it performance.

Ultium is great feed but it has corn and if your not riding the snot out of them it is VERY energy dense and can make one HOTTTTTT

I've just discovered this whole PSSM thing, and I believe it fits my mare to a T, so I am in the process of changing her diet. I've been feeding Tribute feeds for a while now. Started on Kalm n Ez, she didn't like that so I switched to Kalm Ultra. She never liked that any better. So I am switching back to Kalm n Ez and the Tribute booklet lists out different conditions and recommends Kalm n Ez for PSSM.

I'd curious to know what everyone else feeds to see if there is something out there my mare may like eating better. Tribute is just easy for me to get, and I know it's a reputable feed that my friends turned me onto.

The biggest difference i saw in my possible PSSM horse was the molasses. There are some very low starch NSC Feeds out there that still have molasses. I would try Renew gold if you can get it. Out here in so cal we have access to most feeds. Not blue bonnet though.

We feed a lot of PSSM horses at Renew Gold. Feel free to call me at 530-518-8254 and I would be happy to go through your whole management program for this issue. There is much more to it than just diet.

Don't forget to add oil to the low starch feed! I used vegetable oil due to expense. You can use canola, flax, sunflower, even corn oil (which many feel increases inflammation but one problem at a time, right?).

I have yet to see a commercial feed with enough fat in it for the needs of a PSSM horse.

The mare is on flax seed oil, and that has definitely given my the biggest change in weight for her, she's a hard keeper, and after about a month of her being on it, she's got an actual belly and isn't a bunch of ribs anymore. She was in an "athletic" shape before, with muscle tone, but she definitely needed quite a bit of weight put on. She's a very anxious horse, so trying to keep her calm has helped her retain weight as well. But on that note, I'm positive that the oil has influenced her weight, and it's the only feed supplement that has done so. I believe she ends up getting roughly 3/8 cup, and that has really helped.

I'm pretty sure our feed store carries Integrity, but I'll keep an eye for Renew Gold if not. We've got quite a few local feed stores, so one of them is bound to have either.

Thank you for all the suggestions! It's definitely given me a place to start.

So those of you feeding Renew Gold, are you completely replacing your current feed with it? Or using solely as a fat supplement? I've heard both...
