| I'm starting to ride and barrel race other's horses while I'm in grad school and can't have my own, and I was wondering generally speaking, what is a decently priced, good quality (preferably used) saddle that fits MOST horses? Granted it's not gonna fit them all, but I'd like something that I can count on. I have a Ran Ten barrel saddle that's ok quality. It fits me great and has fit the very few horses it's been on so far, but I'm considering getting something of better quality that would be better for the horse and myself. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Location: NC | I have an older Martin Iron Horse and it has seemed to fit a wide range of horses. I have a friend who is a barrel trainer and she was even barrowing it for some of her harder to fit horses. |

Location: OKLAHOMA | Over the years I have found that an older Camarillo fits a wide range of horses. I have one that is made in 1995
it fits anything I put it on. This is my 3rd one to own. Good luck in your search. |

Location: Deep South | I don't know what price range you're looking in, but if you can afford a used Coats, that would be my go to. I worked for a cutting farm where we rode 60+ head per day. The Coats fit more horses the best than any other saddle. They are also made to last, I've seen a couple that were 20+ years old and you can't tell it by looking at them.

Location: Lewisburg, Tennessee | Jordon Peterson Contender by Shiloh. I've ridden many different saddles over the years - even tried treeless Bob Marshall's and flex trees. Nothing has fit a wide range of horses like my Shiloh. I bought it new in 2009 for $1,350 and they're still reasonably priced.

Location: MT | I have a 2015 Sulphur River that is on a Camarillo tree that I have had good luck with lately. It was under 2,000 new.
In the past, the saddles that seemed to fit the most horses for me were Shiloh's. Also had good luck with an older (90's) camarillo saddle.

Location: TN | I recently got a used Molly Powell xtreme saddle by Reinsman and it seems to fit a variety of horses well with simple pad changes. It fits both of my horses pretty well and they couldn't be more different: one is narrow/high withered and the other is low withered and broad/flat backed. It was very reasonably priced used. I found it on facebook. |

^^^ I absolutely agree! They last forever and really hold their value (which can be a touch unfortunate if you are looking for a deal lol) You can also look for a Lazy L, which are made by the same company. |

| Thank you for the suggestions! I guess when I said decently priced, I should've clarified grad school budget..lol. It won't be very much but the amount I would get out of my saddle (around $400) with $100 or $200 on top of that. Those good deals are out there but can be hard to find! I'll start looking! |

I have two Martin Ironhorses and they really do fit a lot of horses. I have a couple of different pads I use, depending on the horse but those are the only saddles I ride on my 4 different horses. |
