My barn has big heavy sliding doors - one side opens to the pasture and the other side opens to a drive not inside the fence.  I am wanting to be able to leave my doors open to allow air to flow through but I am not sure what type of barricade would work best to add to each opening (I think it's a 16') to keep the horses and donkeys out.  Regular gates would be a bit awkward because when they are open, they would block stalls and an access door.  Husband suggested the metal lattice barricades like they use to block aisles at Home Depot because they would fold in when not in use - the only thing I worry about with this is a hoof getting caught.  Does anyone have any other suggestions or pictures?

I would not use either of the gates you show in your post. To many ways that a horse could get hurt. Why not install posts on the outside of the barn doors so a pipe gate can be mounted to swing out that way it would not block anything in the inside.

I would use 2 8' gates. You could drill a hole for a rod to hold one side closed while you open the other side-kind of like on a chain link fence, rod would move with the gate and not block the alley.

You can make swinging gates out of these panels ... i.e. one 10 ft w/gate and a 6ft gate ... plan ahead this panel w/gate when opened into barn should allow you egress thru the walkthru door ...

add a $20 gate wheel to bottom of each for ease of movement ... install them as gates so they will be inside of your big doors and out of the way in the winter time ...

there are pictures on the links ... lots of different setups and features .. pay attention to the weights of the different kinds ... by clicking around this site you may find a better fit ...

^^^^ THIS is the configuration that we used....you can get a one-piece 16' with a 4' walk-thru gate. We used one on both ends of the barn and one as an entry panel in our round pen. You would only have to move the whole gate if you wanted to drive into the barn.

Would it be possible to put a panel/ panels on a track? Like a sliding door? That way ehen open they'd just slide to the sides of the barn and not block anything?

Yept, I love these types of panels with a walk threw gate, and if you need more room to get threw like for a truck, tractor all you would have to is take the pins out and move the panel.

Thanks for the suggestions!  I like the idea of a gate and a walk thru panel - I didn't even really think of that.  I imagine that the sliding doors will be left open the majority of the time and we would rarely need to drive anything large inside.  I guess I should have posted a pic in my original post.  Directly in front is the sliding door (with a walkthrough door) and the other big door is to the left of where I am standing to take the pic.

My donkey and some horses I've owned would crawl under those all day long, and I even had one mare who would get a running start and blast through, breaking snaps/chains/bolts, whatever gave way.  I use stall guards on the walkout doors of my stalls with a heavy reinforcing chain in addition to the guard, but not all of them respect it.

Well dang, I think I'd have to add a hot wire to it then
