I have a horse who had stone bruises which turned into abscesses on the tips of both front toes.  The abscesses have since blown out and drained but did leave small holes less than dime-sized on each front foot.  Now the horseshoer tells me there is the beginning of thrush in each foot.  We had heavy rain last night and more expected this week.  I have no place to keep her that is dry!  I have been picking her feet out and squirting povidone iodine into the holes each day in an attempt to head off the thrush.  I know she needs to be in dry conditions, but I just have nowhere to put her to keep her feet dry.  Is it advisable to put on hoof boots or even to wrap with say a baby diaper to keep her feet dry?

My real concern is that even with hoof boots or a wrap with a diaper the moisture from our high humidity is still going to be trapped in there which would encourage bacterial/thrush growth.  Just wanted an opinion on that.  Otherwise, I guess I will just continue cleaning her feet out multiple times per day.

I have been thru this. The best thing I found if durasole and I didn't wrap I did the durasole every day til it cleared up and then went to every other day til the it dried up again. It worked for me last year when it rained everyday in may and this year. Good luck it is a pain. by the way I am done trying different things I have tried so many and nothing worked til the durasole and it is cheap.

I agree with you on wrapping, it may cause more harm than good.

This stuff is a miracle worker. I live in south AL, so I know all about long-term wet conditions. One tube of the Tomorrow will clear up thrush, it's good for about 3-4 applications per hoof.

I had a colt in a few months ago that had a severe case of thrush, his hind feet had been badly neglected because no one had ever worked with him on picking them up. I cleaned them out daily and applied the Tomorrow every other day until the tube was gone. In the meantime, he was still in and out of the mud. The thrush was cleared up in a week.

This is all I use. Good stuff!

Durasol is great to harden or protect but wont clear up thrush so continue putting thrush buster and iodine mix in the crevices.. gt a syringe and stick in the deep crevices .. it should help deter bacteria growth in wet conditions.. allow it to dry before turning back out..

Durasole does to clear up thrush it may not on your horse but it did on mine. I've tried a bunch of stuff! We had a lot of rain in May of last year it rained bout everyday. It also says on bottle that it is for thrush among other things :))

No advice on the thrush but if you need a sole hardner due to consistently  wet conditions I would reccommend Keratex. It is pricey but it works.

I have always used Coopertox. It is for thrush and forms a moisture barrier.

Give No Thrush a try. I switched to it since I live in a wetland. I couldn't get good results with other products. Easy to use, no mess and works. Valley vet sells it online.

I second No Thrush!  It's a dry application and you just apply it and then scrub it in and work it in to all the crooks and crannies and it dries and keeps the foot area dry.
