Location: California | I generally don't show the beginning stages but I am so excited that I'll go ahead and post. Some of you know him, for those that don't, Ace is a 2012 APHA Gelding by Howelling Corona and out of my mare Pepsi Bar Dancer. Up until earlier this week he was convinced he could not lope a small circle. When it finally clicked that he could he started having a blast with it! This video is day 2 of loping around the barrels. Generally I do a half halt coming out of first to switch leads to second barrel but he needs a bit more of a reminder to pay attention. Apparently someone told him barrel racing was a race and that he's bred to run. Lol. This guy WANTS to work! On second barrel he is anticipating running to third. I'm very happy with how he is progressing and can't wait to see how it goes from here!
*Disclaimer: You can see me get pretty unbalanced at times. I have some health issues that compromise my balance and back issues that prevent me from riding my mare anymore. Ace has a longer smoother stride but his dam has a shorter choppier stride that causes me a lot of pain. I do have a helmet but it's too heavy and irritates the spot on my neck so I get even more unbalanced.*

Location: California | Thank you! Due to my health issues he really lacked consistency until late Spring this year. Now that I have a better handle on things I've been able to ride more. I was hoping to get a horse sold and send him to a local trainer that I ride with currently. I think in the end I'm better off doing his training myself. Then he will be used to my muscle weakness and how I am on my bad days. He won't be as fine tuned as he could be but he'll be trained how I need him to be. His dam has been with me for 8yrs and until my health took a dive I didn't realize just how much she takes care of me on my bad days.
Headed to a barrel race after work and will hopefully have someone to video my exhibitions! |

Location: California | Decided to use our last exhibition at the barrel race to do his first cruise through. He was a tad bit lost since he is so used to circling the barrels multiple times but he felt great! Excited to see how he progresses from here!

Location: California | I'm pretty sure Ace has me spoiled and I will never want to start any other colts! Lol. This guy has been by FAR the easiest, most willing youngin I have stepped foot on so far! Even through all my mistakes this boy tries his heart out! He doest intentionally try to cheat me like his mother will and he WANTS to work! He has also matured body wise quite a bit in the last few months. I keep telling him he can stop going up and start filling out. Lol
Here's a video of a cruise through on Sunday. I didn't ask for speed except smooching to him coming out of the turns. At second and third barrel I left him hanging and dropped my outside rein to grab the horn expecting him to turn with very little assistance from me.

Serenity is doing great! Still sound, getting fat out on pasture. Until we get my back issues so we can fix it, I can't ride her. Her shorter, choppier strides put me in agony just warming her up. Ace has a long and smooth stride. Heaven help me when he figures out he actually has speed. Lol. Not being able to ride Ren has forced me to focus on Ace though so that's the positive. |

Location: California | Thank you :) With any luck I will have my Arabian sold on Sunday and I will finally be able to get the MRIs I need. I'm so glad I can still ride Ace! I'd go nuts if I couldn't ride at all! Though my Dr would prefer I didn't. |

Location: Arkansas | My bf had to have his spinal cord stimulator removed today because it has been showing signs of infection since it was put in first of May---so I have so much sympathy for folks dealing with back issues. This has been a nightmare!! And he so wants to start riding again, but not sure where this puts him now. . . . |

Location: California | UPDATE: Ace has been doing fantastic! I on the other hand have not. My back has been getting worse. Sold my Arabian for half of what I needed out of her but I did get my 2 MRIs. My neck one was normal, my upper back showed thoracic compression from T4 - T6. Dr said it's also described as "compression fracture" even without an actual bone fracture. I've been referred to a neurosurgeon to see where we go from here. With that news I now know it is in fact in my best interest to ride very rarely if at all, and to keep it slow. |

| Glad to see one of his babies. Chatted online with his owner when he was still racing. HC was my top pick if and when I decided to have Scarlett bred. |

Thank you! Needless to say I will be heeding my Dr's advice on the riding. I REALLY don't want Ace to just sit but it's better thenow making my issues worse. I'll be evaluating finances to see if I can swing sending him to a local trainer I've been riding with. She isn't cheap but 100% worth every penny. |

I really wouldn't mind having another one! This guy has been by far the easiest and most willing colt I have ever sat on! His dam has taken such good care of me through my health issues, Ace has followed in her footsteps there. With my compromised balance and muscle loss issues I struggle with my riding some days. He may get confused and frustrated at times but he always does his best to stay under me. Other then when I about get left behind at barrels that is. Lol. |
