Can someone tell me their experiences with this hackamore and what kind of horses you ride in with this hack. TIA!

Love it, love it, love it. I use it on my really sensitive mare, because she likes a little pressure on her face, but just loses it if you try to get in her way during a run.

I have used the rope nose version a LOT and my horses like it. I mostly just exercise them in it but I have run a few that didn't like you messing with their face.

Have used it on a multitude of different ones.

I have the short and long shank versions of all the JW hacks, chain, rope, rawhide etc.

I have several different styles of hackamores. Mine generally work best on horses that do not either like a bit and/or don't like you "hanging on their head". I use a chain nose on my finished horse- she is 17 years old and it is just enough pressure to guide her without being in her way. I also use a similar style hackamore on a 3 year old. She started having issues with a bit so I just switched one day- worked like a charm. She really took to running with in it and really listens to me even though nothing is in her mouth. I do switch up during the week if I feel like I need to work on something and if another nose piece can give me what I'm looking for. I do have a another mare that I ride in a JR cowhorse dog bone twist. Tried the whole Hackamore thing- she was a nightmare. She took the "no bit" thing and totally disrespected it, so I switched her back to the bit. Some horse just like less pressure whereas some require that pressure to maintain your cues/behavior.

It's great for free runners. I also use it if I have one trying to get ahead of me, not waiting for my cues.

Probably a stupid question but how does the chain nose differ from the rope nose as far as response?  Is a chain nose "harsher"?

I wouldn't say the chain is harsher. The harshness of a piece of equipment is all determined by the rider, but I have found that it offers more "location" so to speak. For example, when I ask a horse to collect and tip their nose, in the chain I just pick up one hand, but with a rope I need two hands to get the same action. I really like the sensitivity it offers.
