I live in Monterey County & we are battling a HUGE fire right now.
This last week it has grown to near 33,000 acres & destroyed 57 homes. It's only about 10-15% contained. It has also taken the life of bulldozer operator trying to help contain the fire.
There are over 4000 firefighters trying to put this fire out!
They are stating that the terrain is too rough to get to safely; ground is breaking away right underneath them. It's estimated the fire will not be out until August 31st. Not much options except to let it burn.
My town has always been foggy-but now you can't hardly tell the fog from the smoke.

Location: California | Thanks everyone for your prayers! I figured we could use all we could get!
Lastest update (from last night) is the fire is at 40,000 acres with 18% containment.
They are (worst case scenario) estimating the fire to grow to 165,000 acres before it stops burning.
I'm going to try & upload some photos, hopefully I won't need to resize.

News said something like 75 structures have been lost. |

| My sister is living on her boyfriend's ranch in Carmel Valley. It's very scary. They were first told it wouldn't make it to the ranch and now they are on an evacuation warning. They have decided to be proactive and started hauling stock off the ranch before that warning becomes mandatory.
It's moving so fast. |

I believe it might be mandatory now... I know certain areas of Carmel Valley are. My cousin lives in Cachagua & was evactuated. (south Carmel Valley heading toward Arroyo Seco). The new plan is to build a barrier fire on that side. Looking like a lot more homes will be destroyed. It's extremely saddening. I just hope our town can come together better & stop complaining about how the ash is ruining their cars |
