| I need some assistance lol. I have been looking for a broke started barrel prospect for a few months now. I cannot find anything local or even in my state for that matter. So I am considering purchasing a horse and having it shipped. This is new territory for me and am skittish. What advice do you have for someone purchasing sight unseen horses? |

IO | I had good luck getting an awesome BHW buddy go look and ride for me.glad I did.didnt buy the horse.bought one sight unseen and got taken through the ringer.b it I have bought a few that were just as they were advertised.Dont buy from someone that says they are traveling on a religious trip.......they will get you.lol |

| I would really just find something almost reasonable, like maybe Ohio for you, bring your trailer and look at as many horses as you can in one day and see if you find the one. If that really just cannot happen or you can't find any that interest you, I would look at prospects from people that you know you can trust. I know Hallie Hansen had a really nice one for sale and so did Jordon Briggs. Not sure how many of them would be willing to ship but it's worth a shot and you know you'd be getting a great horse. |

Location: Deep South | Research the seller as well as or better than the horse. I've bought a couple of prospects sight unseen and would do it again. Reputable sellers can usually ask a little bit more for their prospects because they've built such a solid customer base, but it's worth the piece of mind that you get. |

| couldn't agree more with the above statement. Research research research! I bought one sight unseen from what I thought was a reputable seller on here. WRONG! I got rung through the ringer also. Do a vet check, by a vet of your choice! Ask tons of question, ask for current videos of the horse moving both ways at ALL 3 gaits and hire a reliable/reputable shipper. Don't skimp on shipping, that is also one that I failed on. Horse made it 3 days later when she was only 11 hrs away. Not trying to scare you off from buying out of state but please do your homework first. It may take a while longer but it will be worth it. |

With a prospect there won't be much to research on the horse (as far as stats, earnings etc). but definitely get a thorough vet exam by a vet of YOUR choice.
If possible find someone in the area you know that could check the horse out for you, put a ride on it and send you some good video with an unbiased opinion.
I've successfully bought and sold sight unseen many times, so it can certainly have a happy ending! Just be sure to do your research.
It's better to spend a little time and money first and find out the horse wouldn't have worked, then to spend MORE time and MORE money and be stuck with a horse that's not what you wanted.

Or wringing or wrung the chickens head off this morning for Sunday dinner .. lol
Or how a horse deal went ... lol
Keep in mind that rub boards and wringing clothes out by hand was still with us in the 1950's .. then we got electricity on the farm and got an electric washer with a hand wringer and then a power wringer that wrung the water out of your washing.
Take a look and see how lucky we are today ..

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | To answer the OP. I don't ever plan on buying anything riding unless I can see it for myself. Just too risky. I do buy broodmares sight unseen. I have a vet check them for breeding soundness and get as many pictures as I can. Do a 5 panel. Then I just have to hope they have the disposition I desire and aren't 3 legged lame when they show up |
