Location: Opelousas, LA | I have a nice LHDI gelding that doesn't sweat in our heat and humidity, he is miserable this time of year even with fans and misters. This morning at 9:30 it was 89 degrees with a heat index of 103, the humidity just won't let it cool off at night. I have tried everything, nothing works so I am considering trying to sell him to someone that lives in a better climate. I know he will have to be cheap, but I don't really want to give him away. He is 4 yrs old, big, nice bone, good bare feet, well broke and super quiet but not started on the pattern. This breaks my heart to even be considering this because I raised him and he is super cool but my horses need to have a job other than barrels and he is useless for at least four months out of the year. Would some of you up north even be willing to gamble on him and if so where should I price him? | |

I have a friend here and has a mare with the same problem, she has tried to give her to me and see if I can do anything for her, but no I dont want a horse that has a problem, I had one befor and its just alot of work and money to get them to sweat, I can do it and have the money but its just something I dont wont to have to deal with again, she has tryed to even give her away to some of her friends up north but same old story, anybody that has dealt with this just dont wont to deal with it. I dont think you'll get much out of him if you do try to sell him, I dont know of anybody that would even want one thats free. I feel so sorry for horses like this, poor things. Its just so much stress for the owners and horses, good luck.,.. | |

| I would try the Equiwinner Patches. They will not break the bank, and I have a ton of friends that's have had success with them. I use them on my three late spring every year and I am very happy with the results. One of mine used to tie-up sporadically and he has not once since I started using the patches. They have a whole section on non-sweating you can read about. It sounds like might be worth $140 and 10 days to see if he improves! | |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Back in the day I would give my non sweater dark beer and hose him off all the time, I lived in the Rio Granda Valley and the heat there is just as bad as where you live. Stayed in the shade all day with a fan, I got some kind of med from my vet that would help out some he would sweat a few days then quit, I cant remember what the med was at the time it was so long ago, but I would do lots of hosing..But now adays there is different meds that you can get from vets and theres some supplements out there to. Have you tryed googling to see what all the ideals is there to help out you horse?
I just kept at it with mine and then just out of no where he stared sweating again after months and months. I just rode him late in the evenings and nights when he did start sweating again, I had him a long time but was just carefull with what I did with him and always kept an eye on him during the summer, he just didnt get rode as much. | |

I may try accupuncture with a different vet, tried it once and he hated it and actually got worse but she was very new to the art (think online course) so I quit doing that.? I just saw where Jolene and Molli Montgomery built an insulated stall with AC, does any one know them to see if it is working? I think if I could just keep him cool for part of the day he could handle the heat at night and early morning. | |

Dang, you have been at this a long time with him since yearling age, poor guy, hes got a really good mom to be hanging with him this long. I wonder if you could find a fan thats a water cooler and try that, they are really nice to have around my husband has one in his shop and parks it in front of the cars are trucks hes working on. I think I saw that Smartpack has a supplement also, I'll see what I can find.

Location: TEXAS | I used to have a non-sweater. I tried the One-AC and that worked a little bit, but not enough to make it worth buying all the time. I tried dark beer, and that worked a little bit as well, but again, not enough to make it worth buying all the time. A vet once told me to try a mixture of salt and lite salt and that did the trick. But I really think every horse is different. You really have to keep trying different things until you find out what works best. | |

I had 1 quit sweating 3 summers ago. My vet, in Beaumont, TX, makes a sweat mix that he suggested I try. That with One AC had the mare sweating in about a week. But she wouldnt sweat on just one or the other product. Had to be the combo of the 2. She breathes harder than most horses now but has kept sweating. | |

I looked last night and found some smaller port a cool fans for 5-700, may try that, I thought they were all around $3000, didn't know they had smaller ones. What is so strange about this horse is that he has 4 siblings and they all sweat great, not sure why he drew the short straw, poor guy. | |

That is the combo that works best for him, he was actually sweating a little on his neck, chest and between his legs if I rode him after dark, he didn't totally stop sweating until the last week of July this year. All bets are off if I ride after the sun starts coming up though. | |

| I have a horse that just started doing this in the last three weeks, never heard of this happening to a horse before. Slowly since about the middle of June her sweating was decreasing but it didn't occur to me anything was wrong because I do my best to ride her late at night. Up until three weeks ago she was a horse never had any problems related to sweating, so this ordeal has been a total shock. I bought the Mega Sweat and should have it on Monday to start her on, hoping it is something that will work for her. And she has been on electrolytes for the past three weeks as well but it hasn't made any difference for her. | |

Mine does not have any sweat marks anywhere under the saddle pad, girths, or breast collar. Not even around her poll/ears where her headstall sets. | |
