| My horse is ducking, I'm going to try switching directions and go left. How did you go about that? How long until you made a run? How long until your horse was competitive again?

| To me, it usually takes a couple of months before they're as confident as they (and you) were going the other way.
Also, I know sometimes it's not a physical issue but I would rule that out first before going through the headache of switching directions just to find out it was a pain issue.
I actually switched mine about 4 months ago and she is doing awesome to the left :) I think just like some people are right or left handed, horses have a better side. That's why I switched mine, well... and she had a listening issue, she was not paying attention to me so I decided to throw her off by taking her the other way. I ran her like 2 weeks after making the switch initially and she seemed a little lost but was more responsive because she was actually listening to me. haha. Location: Deep South | Horses don't just start ducking for no reason, or just to be jerks.
I would have the horse looked over by a good lameness vet. Fix the physical issues. Then, after they are healthy, some can still carry the mental block with them and switching them to the other direction can help them get past it. |

Yes I have dealt with the pain issues and now I'm hoping to salvage the horse. I'd like to bring him back to the left as sort of a fresh start. |
