I apparently have a wizard of a gelding who has recently figured out how to remove his wrap in the night. 2 nights in a row he's managed to get it off.
Does anyone have any tips/tricks to getting him to keep it on through the night?
I'm using the BOT No Bow Tendon Wraps. I was thinking maybe a little vet wrap around the polo?
He's HATING being on stall rest, and has become a real pain in the ....

I smear vaseline and cayane pepper on the top of the wraps so they leave them alone

You could try the vet wrap around the polo or I have used electrical tape...it's harder to get a hold of. Just be careful and don't pull it too tight. Do you have anything in the stall he can play with? Ball? Milk jug with rocks to hang up? Salt block? I have also heard of people freezing carrots or apples in a small bucket of water...so they have to lick and work to get the goodies. It might help his boredom.

use duct tape...but don't use a polo. Use the standing bandages that are designed to go over the pillow wraps. If you are using the BOT quick wraps duct tape the tape to the pull tabs so the horse can't get them off.

If your horse is REALLY bad and likes the taste of cayenne, sour apple, etc. someone makes a "neck cradle" thing that prevents them from putting their neck down and chewing the wraps. I think they sell it at Dover or Schneiders.

I just bought him a jolly ball. So we will see how long that keeps him entertained. I might have to try to frozen bucket! He's a bit of a hog so I bet that would entertain him.

I am using the standing bandages. I just didn't know what to call them and 'polo' seemed like a close enough word LOL

They're not the quick wraps. They're basically BOT versions of the pillow wraps. He leaves the quick wraps alone, but per my vets recommendation I have been doing the standing wrap instead. I'll have to give the duct tape a try! Thank you!

When I worked at the track, we used to rub some shampoo (Orvus) on the wraps after they were put on. Taste deters them from pulling or chewing, and as an added bonus the shampoo made them easy to clean by spraying off when they were removed.

That's a genius idea. I never would have thought of that. Thank you!

This!! I just spray it on and don't ever have to use tape. Watch your eyes and use in a well ventilated area when spraying it on.
