So, I've noticed lately with my gelding, the first couple steps he takes are a little "weak" so to speak. He isn't lame what so ever and but just when I get on to ride his first step or two is off. Of course after that he's fine.

Well my farrier came out today and said his front left heel was sore, he said not in the navicular spot but kinda on the side, he thinks maybe he's stepped on something. I've tried to look at other threads but all are about nevicular, which I'm sure he isn't or at least he wasn't a week and a half ago when my get was out.

My farrier didn't say what I could do to pull the soreness out so I'm asking y'all! Soak his foot in Ebsen salt? What else to help?

It sounds like contracted heels. I find not many farriers can actually identify this.

I had a horse do the exact same thing, he was acting a little stiff then worked out of it. Took him to the vet, he tested positive on the heel, flexed clean, X-rays clean. Vet said contracted heels, fixed the problem, he was back to his normal self.

Dry conditions can cause a horse to contract, some tolerate it more then others

I pulled shoes, and went barefoot, never looked back.

Also my vet overseen his trims every 4 weeks for 6 months.

There is a special way to release heels, I am not going to post it, as most people disagree with it as it included taking off a lot of heel
