| I am looking at purchasing a 2007 Ford F350 with the 6.0. Does anyone have any experience with these particular engine types? I would be pulling a gooseneck trailer with it. I'm on a budget so purchasing new isn't really an option. |

Location: West Texas | Don't do it. There are other trucks out there you can find on your budget that will be a better buy than a 6.0. Those year models the dodges and GM trucks were way better in the engine category. Look for either one of them that has been taken care of and you can't find pretty nice trucks. I bought a very nice 08 dodge this spring. They are out there.

Agree, do not do it! Look up the 6.0 liter diesel Ford...they are/were a headache. |

| Not my first choice of an engine for sure, but how many miles and is it bulletproofed? I have always heard they are either great or a giant turd but once bulletproofed (not sure what all that entails) are good to go.
A great diesel mechanic you trust can help you decipher that (mine told me to run, but that might be because he's Duramax guy)
That being said, we have an '05 3/4 ton Duramax, an '07 3/4 ton Duramax and an '08 1 ton Duramax DRW and love them all. They are workhorses.
The Duramax's will run more expensive in that year range though because the motors are so much more reliable than ford was then, or at least that is the case around here.
Dodge IMO has a great motor in the Cummins but I hear of way too many other issues - of late electrical problems as everything has become more integrated. I believe the 2 dodges I regularly see in the shop via Facebook are both fairly new, but it's enough to make me steer clear. |

| I have the dreaded 6.0, bought it new. It was great until it hit 100k (guess I was lucky). At that point, it went to sh**. I won't bore you with everything that went wrong but, I wouldn't own one with the factory oil cooler. Needs to be the Bullet Proof one. Also, if you can do the EGR delete, do it. |

| Save yourself some big headaches and $$$. Don't own a 6.0 ford. Speaking from experience... |

Location: Oklahoma | We are on our 2nd 6.0 motor and LOVE them. I'm married to a diesel mechanic that knows these motors. Neither of ours have been bullet proofed. Both pull strong. We will be bullet proofing our 3/4 ton but we didn't the dually we had. There are pros and cons to each make of motor out there. We have also had an 05 Chevy with the LLY Duramax and that was an expensive truck to repair. I personally wouldn't hesitate to purchase another 6.0 |

TK, You are in the minority with a diesel mechanic husband who understands these nightmarish motors better than the lay people with no experience whatsoever on diesel trucks. I commend ya'll for the positive experience Ya'll have had with the 6.0 POS.
One must remember that Ford dang near lost market share of The Diesel Pickup Market with the advent of the 6.0 Family! There is a reason for this piece of history! They are a substandard design for International Harvester that was rolled out too soon! The bugs were not 'worked out' prior to Ford introducing per EPA pressure!
These motors can be and have been 'reworked' i.e. bulletproofed to do well. However, I would not recommend these motors to the uninitiated in the diesel world. |

Very true. I am very lucky to be married to my husband. By trade he is a cummins specialized mechanic, but he worked at International and learned their motors in and out which are the same as the Ford motors. Yes, these trucks can cause headaches and be expensive, yet I see more 6.0's driving down the roads where we are than I do the 6.4 motors. |

Location: Kentucky | Our 6.0 is pushing 300k. Never had a problem but we were proactive and bulletproofed it. Pulls great. It doesn't even compare to our 7.3. My husband is also a mechanic and loves the 6.0 because he knows what to look for. If you are someone who is not mechanically inclined, or just wants to drive a truck and not service it, then I wouldn't go for the 6.0. Stick with the 7.3. |

I believe you are correct. I've driven the 6.7 and liked them. What I don't like about the new motors on any of the diesels is the DEF. Hence, we will only own trucks pre DEF. We do delete our EGR's and he does constantly look at our truck to make sure it's running right. |

DEF is part of The SCR System i.e. Selective Catalytic Reduction Technology which meets The unConstitutional EPA's Emission Standards and the reason I refuse to deal with a diesel pickup that has this technology! So viola! I drive Ford's pre 2003 1/2 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel which is the equivalent to the IH466 with a different camshaft. And it is readily available as a crate motor and can be modified quite easily. |

The 7.3 is definitely a great motor to have. We regret selling ours, but it was a standard cab 2x4 and we needed a larger truck. We had the 2004 dually with the solid front axle and I HATED driving that truck. Traded it in for our 2006 that has 125k miles on it. |

Location: Texas | Run far, far away from the 6.0. I had a 2006 F350 6.0 bought brand new. EG Cooler went out at 35K miles. Fortunately it was under warranty then. It started having problems again at 70K miles. When we went to trade it in we couldn't hardly give it away because no one wanted that 6.0. We could have put in a delete kit but it would have cost quite a bit as well and makes it hard to resell as well. I am back in a F350, but I now have the 7.3 and love it. |
