| There is a medication that will clear it up within a few days. The sooner you start the medication the better. Do not scratch it. My wife gets them if she gets sun burned. The older you are the more miserable they are. My wife is in her 20's and it sucks for her, so if you are even older you have my sympathy. |

Location: Florida | I had shingles on my face. The worst pain was swelling in my eye. I felt like I was getting the flu for weeks. I had been having pain in my eye. I got chicken pox at around 40 and that is the cause of shingles. The medicine is valtrex. There is a generic now that does work just as well. The name brand used to be very expensive so be prepared. |

Location: the end of the rainbow | My mother in law says the vaccination has not stopped or decreased the number if time is a year that she has a shingles outbreak. She feels the only thing the vaccination did was cause her to have an outbreak. She does the medicated oatmeal baths for relief from the pain & itching but says they only help a little. If you know anyone that is really into essential oils.i would ask them if they have any ideas. |

| I am no doctor but my introductory understanding is if you have ever had the chicken pox, the shingles virus exists within you. It can be triggered by a number of things but I understand stress can be a contributing factor. |

Location: Iowa | My 25 yr old daughter had them this summer. Hers broke out on her right side of her forehead and eyebrow. She was sent to the eye dr because of the proximity of them to her eye. She went on a rx to lesson the time of the outbreak. Do not scratch them, they can scar very easily. The eye dr. said something about if they were above the eye we didn't have to worry but if below and t0 the side, then they have to monitor closely. |

Location: Texas | The virus exists in your body if you've had the chicken pox. Stress, a cold, or any stress on your immune system can allow the virus an opportunity to show up. It's highly contagious. If it's blistered, don't scratch it. It's contagious when the sores are open. Medicine will help quicken the discomfort, but mostly it's a virus and must run its course. |

Location: Kansas | It isn't always what you think it is. I had an outbreak on my forehead that I was afraid was shingles. Thanks to Obamacare I got to see PA's instead of a doctor and while they tried to convince me it was shingles me (and their smarter-than-them nurse) weren't so sure. Antibotics and a topical cream finally cured what was probably some kind of disgusting fungus. |

| I get it on the back of my thigh. Stress is my trigger, I can tell when I am going to have an outbreak, I feel achy and uncomfortable sitting. I immediately start my rx, which is valacyclovir, and I sit on a heatng pad. The rx is a lifesaver. |

Location: Georgia | I had them for the first time this year. They started out as a cluster of blisters on the back of my neck. Within 2 days I had about 4 areas of blisters. I took a generic medicine that was not expensive but can't remember the name of it. The sooner you get on meds the better. |

Location: Running my kids somewhere. | UPDATE** Dr does not think shingles. Took samples and sent off for culture. Started meds and put into isolation. She thinks it is mercer. Just Ducky! |

Love your quotes, btw.

Location: Texas | Make sure they know for sure. My husband had shingles for the first time a few years ago and the doctor didn't think that is what it was. He just said it was some little rash not to worry. Doctor was SO WRONG. It progressed bad, and he ended with Bell's Palsy (facial paralysis) that lasted a YEAR! imagine drooling and slurred speech for A YEAR and trying to do your job as a cop. It was awful. He still has residual paralysis that shows up when he is really super tired. |

Location: In The Land of Cotton | Valtrex is for shingles. My husband broke out 2 days after our grandbaby was born. It was scary for a while as he had been around the baby - a lot. He then had to go into isolation and stay away from all of us caring for the baby.
He said it felt like hot grease splattering on your skin. His was on his neck, back and shoulder area. It stays usually in a quandrant area.

A man back home got them around his eye and was blinded due to it - so yes, nothing to mess with for sure. |
