Expert Posts: 5293	I bought a new finished mare couple months ago. Super hard worker ,1d and tough as nails. Only issue is she hates reins going on and off and bridle on and off over her ears. She was in fact abused as a colt. I knew that. She is 11 now. When your not bridling she is so kind and you can rub and play with her ears and she could care less. Even haltering she is just fine. She works so hard and wins so much for me I just use a snap for reins and would like to find a headstall you can it put on same way. Ideas?? That's her only hole and I am totally happy to live with it.

He has a problem with his atlas and when it's out is when I have a problem. It's a chronic problem so after he is worked on it only stays in for a few weeks.

Elite Veteran Posts: 883 Location: Southern Indiana	I had a mare that had that fungus in her ears and she was a real pain to bridle. A one ear unbuckled worked the best...I even just took the ear piece off. Nrs carries head stalls that tie like a rope halter. I always thought that would work well.

That way I could just in bucks and she is good. Probably try that route. I just hate watching that head stall slip back into their neck. Lol like the above poster said I can just unbuckle it I guess. For HER she gets what she wants. She is that nice.

Lol like the above poster said I can just unbuckle it I guess. For HER she gets what she wants. She is that nice. I have punched a hole in the top of my headstall and run some baling twine through it and then tied it under their throatlatch area. It wasn't pretty but it was effective.

I had a mare that hated her ears to be touched, so had a one ear headstall that I would unbuckle and just put it on her like I would a halter, worked great and it had a throat latch, the throat latch was contected to the head stall on each side it didnt run threw the ear peice, I will see if I can find a picture of one for you, it was a older headstall like the ropers used in the day.

Back years ago that's what I would do with most of my headstalls took off browbands or ear peices and just used the head peice holding the bit, the headstalls back then were just plan janes , but now adays the headstalls are so pretty

Well that was a very cheap fix , are you unbuckling the headstall to put it on her or is she letting you slip the headstall over her ears?
