I am not sure how many colts by him are even on the ground because jackie didn't stand him until this year and when emily efurd was running him they didn't bred him either. |

Location: Where I am happiest | 1 performer out of 37 foals of performance age ( 5 in 2016) is not very good odds. Now this next year adds more yet. I wonder what the story is where all these are and why they havent hit the arena but 1? |

Location: Cocoa, Florida | Gary Langford stood him here in east central Florida for a while, I know a few that have yearlings. My trainer/friend runs a mare out of jet, she's 1D locally and 2D at big shows,(she's a senior NBHA runner with a hell of a record on this mare) she's super super nice, big, stocky and strong. Another friend just started running a 1/2 sister locally doing very well. And now that I think of it I remember another friend of mine had one in training that sold for around 9k as a 4-5 year old was a full sister to my other friends horse. All 1-2D in Florida.
The two full sisters were buckskins and the other is a bay.

My first was super working bred on the bottom. She was so easy to start. I sold her after breaking her and she went on to make a nice 2d/3d barrel horse
My second which I have now is bred all run on the bottom. She is a 6 yr old this year. I plucked her basically out of someones backyard as a VERY green broke late 4 yr old. She DOES have plenty of speed and we've run in all divisions with very limited hauling. She is extremely quick and was easy to start as well.

These videos are only the third time this year I have hauled her. It was after she had been turned out since April. I rode her a month before this show and she ran in this video in the 2D against 200+ horses. She is still getting seasoned and will start running harder but I don't haul much.
Both mares were as different as night and day personality wise but both were super athletic and natural barrel horses. Both had their momma's personality and temperment. The one I have now has a bottom known to be fractious and tempermental and quirky but I KNEW, having seen GFJ and other GFJ babies that Guys French Jet would even out that temperment enough to let her skills shine thru. I was right. He put a great work ethic on top of her grit and determination.
I would breed to or buy another in a heartbeat but I would choose my mare for the sepcific outcome you are hoping for.

There is a lot Florida doesn't get... even with the huge barrel horse population here.
Well I should say NBHA population here (biggest state show of any state I believe or at least the top). Not sure if local NBHA submits to equistat or not, my old district did not. I guess the major shows do.

No futurities to speak of, maybe one or two very small ones down south good luck finding the results and they have maybe 25 entries...
Not too many BIG races other than NBHA. YES there are a few scattered about but not the numbers like out west. SLOWLY I see a few new ones popping up for next year.
Rodeos are pretty popular but I doubt they submit to equistat. IDK.
A LOT of smaller local associations down mid and south FL.
There is that casino that runs races out west Florida but I doubt they submit to equistat.
We are the lowly stray dog that wandered up that someone feeds some but no one really nurtures. Thats how I describe barrel racing in FL.
Someone correct me if I am wrong but this is what I have seen forever but I live in a DEAD ZONE for barrel racing. Typically have to drive 2 hrs+ to get to anything other than NBHA.

34 four yrs or older. A percentage of those 34 may be dead, hurt, not used as barrel horses (mine was barely broke in a backyard with until she was late 4), those that are futurity age probably arent being trained for futurities (not many opportunities for that here)... so i dont think there are THAT many running barrels. I know of couple nice ones around in Fl. BUT THEY WILL PERFORM.... after GFJ is done proving what a bad ass he is in the rodeo world he can concentrate on making more like him.

I believe Florida is the largest NBHA state show in the country. Last year we had close to 1000 entered this year almost 900, I was 860 something.
We have a few different associations and super shows but I don't know who reports and who doesn't. I know for a fact Suncoast (S.B.R.A) reports to equistat because the owners daughter used to run Jet herself when Gary owned him, and they were good about that stuff. But suncoast was only one of the many small associations we have.
We have PAC West and the Tour of Champions as well that generate bigger crowds.
The mare that my trainer owns is GL jets two go and she's def won lots and lots of 1/2D money here in FL. What's reported and what's not, who knows |
