| Are coggins and a health certificate required to transport horses into Texas? What about a brand inspection? Thanks!

| You need to have health certificate to cross most state lines. You need Coffins but it may not get checked. So yes, you need both. |

| You need a negative Coggins to get the health paper .... Technically, to ever cross a state line, you need both.
Your show, or final destination, may not always check - BUT - you will be very happy if you get pulled over, because they will check!
ETA - Brand Inspections are usually dependent on the county and can usually be found with a quick google of your destination.

Location: Texas | When I hauled horses between Oklahoma and Texas I always had a coggins along with a health certificate. Never was checked though. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | We get pulled over every time we come back from OKlahoma into Texas. Most State Troopers know what to look for here in TX. We have our mare branded but have proof we own the brand.
I don't know how you all don't get pulled over LOL maybe my rig just looks like it's full of stolen horses??  |

| I live on the Oklahoma side of Texas and have been stopped a couple of times crossing the Red River, so I would recommend having coggins/health papers. |

| Brand inspection depends on where the horse is from. For example, CO is a brand state and I live in CO. If I haul my horse from CO to TX, I technically should have my brand inspection along with a coggins and health.
If I am buying a horse from TX, then all you need is the coggins and health because TX is not a brand state. Once I get that TX horse back to CO, I'd better get the brand inspection on it ASAP since a brand inspection is what proves ownership according to CO law. |

Yes. A brand inspection has nothing to really do with a brand when it comes to horses. The brand inspector (who is a State employee) comes out, checks over your paperwork, writes out a description and gives you a brand card. A permenant brand card here costs $75 per horse and is good as long as you own the horse. When you sell it, you need to get another inspection done and turned over to the new owner.
I have a horse here of my parents. They live in OK which is not a brand state. I had an inspection done on their horse so I have a card. It just lists them on it instead of me. It just wouldn't have looked good to get pulled over and have an inspection on everyone else but her. The state can impound the horse if you don't have one. WY is really bad about pulling people over, checking and impounding if you are from a brand state but don't have the brand inspection. |

If you are traveling south on Hwy 69/75 ... exit at the Colbert Hwy 91 exit and turn right and go across the Lake Texoma dam back to hwy 69/75 .... this is about 3 miles further than staying on 69/75 ... good road and a nice view of the lake ... and you miss the Tx inspection station ... lol ..

Location: California | Like everyone said, to cross state lines you MUST have both. It's actually illegal in Texas to transport a horse without a Coggins even just within the state. |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | Heck...in Arkansas you must have a current <1yr coggins to even possess the horse. And...any neighbor within 400yards can request that compliance come check your paperwork to be sure all have current coggins.
I have never hauled a horse across state lines without a Health Cert. I've never been checked (And I haul a lot)...but better safe than sorry!

I run back and forth on I35 almost weekly and I've NEVER been pulled over! You must be hauling ass! |
