Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | Mine is a troxel but I don't remember which one. It's not one they make anymore I don't believe. It has a horse shoe and a cross on the side.
Read my post on down before deciding on a helmet though.

My 5yo neice saw a helmet at a tack store and that's all she's been talking about and I'm not too familiar with them. Do I measure her head or would a youth size be fine? Like, is there anything I should know about the fit? I feel like she wouldn't tell me the truth whether it fit well or not because she'd be too excited to say if it didn't. |

Location: New Mexico | My grandchildren all wear Troxel, I really like them. If you follow their guidlines for fit you shouldn't have an issue. All the helmets we have dealt with have the flip fold (I think it is called) liner that helps with fit and also the dial adjustment to help with fit. If you get the recommended size and adjust it the way it says to we haven't had any issues- they seem to sort of work their way a little out so I adjust them before every single ride to be sure.

| I really encourage you to go somewhere and try the fit for yourself. It's crazy how different shaped our heads are, and where the pressure points are. You get a good education by going to an English tack shop and letting them fit one too you. Western stores don't seem to be as educated about how to really fit one. I looked and looked - researched - and looked some more. I bought a Samshield. It is an English helmet, and unfortunately for my pocketbook, far more expensive than a troxel or other western brands. Awesome customer service and warranty. The helmets themselves only come in S/M/L, but there are washable snap in liners that are sized like a western hat (6 7/8 or 5 3/4 for example).You can really customize the fit. I liked that I wasn't tied to a certain size, because my biggest fear abut a helmet was that what if it felt good in the store, but hurt after I'd worn it for a while. They also had liners for "round" heads and "oval" heads. I am the type of person that gets a headache wearing a wore out floppy old baseball cap - but I can wear this helmet ALL day, and the ventilation in it is great. I am not the type of person that has to have the best or fanciest stuff. There is zero bling on my tack or body. But I (grudgingly) paid $400 for a helmet - and feel it was money well spent.

Location: Where the stars at night are big and bright, TX | Depends on the shape of your head. I have a One K Defender and a Samshield. They both replaced my old Tipperary. The molds have changed with Tipperary and don't fit like they used to. |

Location: Texas | Tipperary Sportage fits my head better than the Troxel. I think my head is longer ? (oval?). Fits great, but I have to admit, it gets too hot for my head in the summer. I over-heated a number of times wearing it this summer, and finally had to give up if the temperatures are above about 92 and high humidity. I feel that any helmet might have had the same effect. |

| It's important to find one that fits you comfortably so you want to wear it and will give you the best protection.
For me it's the Troxel Intreprid. Ovation and Tipperary are also great brands.
I really try to stay under $100. If you fall off and take a hit to the head you really need to replace it. I don't want to second guess that rule because I had to save for months to buy my helmet, I want to be able to bop into the local shop the next day and throw down $50-$70 for a new helmet. |

Location: The South | I go back and forth between my Troxel Intrepid and my Tipperary Sportage. I didn't have any stores nearby to try any on, so I picked out a few from Stateline Tack and got free shipping so it wasn't too bad. Just had to pay to ship back the ones that I didn't like. |

Location: on my horse | I love my tipperary sportage, it's super important to get fitted by someone who knows what they are doing, and realize that the "fluff" inside the helmet will compress over time. My tipperary is an XS, before I was riding in a medium and thought all was fine, until I went to a clinic who had a helmet sponsor and I got to try some on of different sizes and actually get fitted. I had way too much play in my helmet for it to be considered safe. The XS is super comfortable too! |

Location: North of where I want to be | We spend boat loads of money on everything from conchos to make our saddles look pretty to bronc haltes with names and insane treatments for our horses. Please, get fitted, buy the higher quality helmet as you likely plan to have it for a while and be thankful for the money well spent when it is called into service. |

| I like my tipperary sportage. I used to use troxels, but they were uncomfortable for me, just didn't fit the shape of my head as well, and I was less likely to actually put it on. You probably should just go try some on and see what fits the shape of your head the best. |

| My Daughter is 6 and wears a small in Troxel helemts.
Its has adjustable strap in the Helmet to make it fit snug.
