I have mostly given lasix in mainline. But a week ago Sunday I gave two horses in muscle, just because couldn't regulate time I was going to run. Both horses neck swollen , I took to vet, not abcessing. Putting azium and DMSO mix. Said should be ok. Gave lasix back to vet to see if contaminated. UGH! Maybe any of you had this happen?
One horse got off her feed for two days, both back on feed. Been doing water therapy , and using DMSO / azium mix. Both neck is going down, one seems slowly. More swollen than other. I had put BOT neck blanket in which think caused this to be bigger. I iced other one. I won't do this again!!!

I'm sorry this happened to you! I've given it IM a lot over the past 20 years and never had it happen either.

Thanks for response. I was worried because two horses had same reaction . I have giving IM before with no problems and I know race trackers do this because of time frame. Still scares me on these two so will not give IM to these. It's a pain when something happens to my babies. All will be well, just time to get back to normal

I've never had a problem with Lasix IM. I'd guess you have something else going on.

A friend of mine had this happen a week or so ago, she texted me and sent the picture. Maybe there was something in that batch. I would call the drug company if you are super curious and maybe they've heard of a few similar reports.

I gave it to a mare pretty regularly in the muscle. Sometimes it wasnt worth the fight to mainline her. The last 2 times I gave it IM she had swelling and a knot. I stopped giving it IM and would find someone to give it IV if I couldnt.

I have never had that happen.  I only rarely give it IM but have friends that don't mainline ever.  Only thing I know is that it takes roughly double the time to work.

I'm wondering if it could have been enviromental since both horses reacted?  Maybe something blooming that happened to cause an alergic reaction in a minute open skin spot.

So weird with no abcessing.  Was it a lump?  Or the whole neck swelled up?

One mare bout size of 1/2 cantaloupe I put back on track neck blanket on her spread, now down bunch. With DMSO and azium for two weeks. Other one knot still size of orange, I put back on track all night last night, fixing go ride them, they are playing in the cool weather, eating hay off ground now, using DMSO and azium on both. One with orange size seems sore in base of neck like pinched nerve. Hopefully the back on track helped her will do again if see difference this afternoon

Back in track neck blanket helped it a lot! Made it spread out softer knot. Rode good today. THANK GOD!!
