A Gopher's Worst Nightmare Posts: 5094 Location: Southern Oregon	We have several races coming up this summer that are weekend races. My daughter is keeping me on the move! Recently i have been looking at cabover campers. I have a Ford powerstroke dually that is already set up for a cab over and we have a two horse slant and a three horse bumper pull to haul with. My questions for those of you who haul with these types of set ups...... what are some "have to haves" when it comes to stablizing ext. What brands of cab overs should i look into? i honestly would prefer to have a LQ horse trailer, but a cab over suits our families OTHER needs as well as this one.

	Make sure your cabover is built for the size of your truck's bed ........ ford, chevy, dodge are all different sizes. Make sure your brake box manual control is handy to use in case you get rolling down a mountain or get trailer sway to help stop the trailer action. And that your box is set so trailer brakes are felt inside the truck before you feel your truck brakes .. I ordered my old 1997 dually 3500 Ram with a camper special pkg which gave heavier springs and sway bars on truck plus ordering the towing pkg ... which would handle top heavy objects like your cabover and a trailer ... so look hard at your springs and good Bilstein shocks on the truck. I don't think the newer trucks have both due to being more citified than work oriented ... Your tailgate may have to be down for the cabover ... so make sure the tongue or hitch setup allows for this to happen. Elite Veteran Posts: 629 Location: Roping pen	I would suggest air bags under truck also. Newer trucks sag under load something awful and they will keep truck level for better handling and headlight coverage.

Location: in the ozone	Make sure there is plenty of clearance between the cabover & the roof of your truck. Idiots where I had bought mine did not - ended up damaging my roof but they had to pay for it. I had a NIGHTMARE with that camper ... bought new & it had all kinds of things messed up. (the idiots had put vertical LP tanks in a horizontal compartment .. I had been traveling, literally a few thousand miles & stopped in WY to get tanks filled and they refused to fill them & told me why (gas builds up in them when laying down like that & MAJOR risk of BOOM!!) They about crapped when I told them how far I'd been traveling & how many times I had lit the stove & furnace, etc. He said I definitely had a guardian angel watching over me!!) Another thing wrong with it was when I was going to dump the sewer one time & their pipes were not properly attached & IT DUMPED ALL OVER ME!! If I remember correctly, it was a SunLite - & I do believe they are out of business now - BIG surprise!! Go with a good one .... Lance is one of the best. Out west, the S&S are very good, long time company also. Coachmen used to make a good one but don't think they make the PU campers anymore.
